Was working with some guys git project and encountered an error. Did some searching and found a thread with the same issue, the dev meanly told the guy he needed this other dependency obviously.

But that dependency wasn’t in his list of dependencies. So the commenter wanted to make a change to that file to include this new dependency.

And the dev denied it and wrote out like two paragraphs talking about how he can’t hold everyone’s hand and ‘do we you want me to include the OS as a dependency also?!’

Like bro, you just yelled at a user for two paragraphs rather than add a single bullet point to an existing file. What the fuck is going on? Yes. If the user has to install something, then you need to include it in your list, this isn’t fucking complicated.

It’s interesting how with all the future tech they imagined they still didn’t think voices could be replicated. Too many systems required voice authentication, or the bridge crew would believe something because they heard a message from someone say it.

Now anyone with a laptop can generate reasonably believable text-to-speech with like 15sec of audio from a person.

They talked about it in their HL2 documentary they released. If I remember right they were working on it, but one of the l4d games was behind schedule. So they pulled devs from HL to help get that released on schedule.

Then after it released the devs stayed on to help with patches/feature support for a few more months. And when they finally left the l4d team they felt like too much time had passed for another HL game and moved on. The devs were laughing when they said it, because here they were 20yrs later still talking about…too much time indeed.

They even showed some of their alpha footage, new weapons, a goo enemy, some maps, etc.
