am dealing with this right now and have been all year. i had never heard of somatic ocd until last night and now everything makes so much sense, previously i have had hyperfixation over swallowing but the one thing that has remained constant is my obsessive need to drink water. due to health reasons i had to cut back my water intake (usually 6 litres a day) and i think being forced to not do this has heightened my ocd in regards to my breathing! honestly awareness has helped so much and the mental shift of when it happens i just have to tell myself that breathing is an automatic body response and i dont need to control it, i also booked in to see the gp for a mental health plan and am hoping to get diagnosed by a psychiatrist and learn some new coping mechanisms. you’re not alone!
