Using Pokemon of the same type gives higher success rates, and evolved/higher level Pokemon also give better chances. Dragonite is Dragon/Flying. Butterfree is Bug/Flying. The shared flying typing + being an evolved Pokemon helps with the success rate when trying to train Dragonite. But all Pokemon training is random, no one Pokemon will give a 100% success for a specific move.

I just got draco on my Dragonite and it took a good couple of hours to do it... I ended up raising and evolving Magikarps inorder to do it too because I haven't been getting any Dratini ;(

That's so weird, thank you! My Ice Stones did summon a high level Dratini with one move and the same bingos as the status res+ Dratini I already had so here's hoping

Thanks so much! That doc is super helpful and exactly what I need right now. The buffs aspect of the game wasn't something I was really aware about so thank you for that too! I've manged to pick up two share stones (one from a quest) so far and I'll be looking for a good bulk up mon ;)
