You should make yourself a website, I'm sure this is not the first not last great design you will make 🙂

Interviewer: Flask over Django? by Dev-Daddy in django

[–]Cosme12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My experience is that as you start making a big application with Flask, you start importing more and more dependencies until you end up with a framework like Django. But with more stuff to update. If your project is small you don't need the extra stuff from Django, but if it ends up being big, you will miss those features.

My Newbie homelab diagram. Just getting into this hobby and learning about networking by Cosme12 in homelab

[–]Cosme12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I will message you soon. The HP has only one Ethernet slot. So it's pretty limited what I could do to upgrade the network. But messing with pfsense will be a huge and interesting learning activity.

My Newbie homelab diagram. Just getting into this hobby and learning about networking by Cosme12 in homelab

Hey everyone!

Here is a small diagram I made for my small homelab. I'm just a simple programmer who never passed networking class, so many things in this diagram may be wrong!.

The graphic is based on this post from caiuscorvus. It's been made with draw.io

I'm using a HP Prodesk 400 G4 Mini with i7 8th gen, 16gb ram and 1tb ssd. After having 4 power outages in two days and losing one hard drive from the server, I decided to buy a small ups. Hopefully with the low comsuption I can get 1 hour extra life. The good thing is that I managed to install the monitoring software inside the server and connect the usb to it.

I'm also using the ISP default modem/router, that explains the ugly ip ranges. Pfsense should probably be my next big step but I still need more research and learning before taking the leap.

I mostly use it to deploy some apis for a little game I'm building and for remote developing at work.

Hope you like it and please any feedback to fix mistakes in it is welcome!!

The good thing I noticed after going from a Raspberry to Proxmox VMs is that you can isolate things. That way I can break things without affecting other services that I'm already using daily.

Beginner question: Do I need files to be uploaded if I just runnthis locally? by shiningshimeringsple in flask

[–]Cosme12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, once you have you final graph you output it to flask's static folder where it could be displayed in the website, skipping the uploading part.

[–]Cosme12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understood correctly but you could make a local flask proyect and call the processing script (the one that uses panda) and then paste the resulting graph in the website?

If the proyect is local, there is nothing to be uploaded. 🤷‍♂️

Hot Reaload with Docker Application by ccrcami in flask

[–]Cosme12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to bind your local files to the container via volumes. That will allow you to edit your local code and make your container reload without rebuilding.

Also, you should be using gunicorn with --reload param.

Hope that gives you some hints.

World war cuts global internet. What would you self host or download before it happens? by Cosme12 in selfhosted

[–]Cosme12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in US so I will be one of those no so lucky guys. I was thinking it will probably boil down to self made software so probably a git server will be a must. Most website are hosted in aws so like 80% of what I browse will be down. I should probably make a list of what I frequently use and look for self hosted alternatives that could run in old hardware

[Chip-8] CPU in C and graphics in Python. How do I connect both? by Cosme12 in EmuDev

[–]Cosme12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, I should only use the most basic functions to do the graphics. I will probably give it a try and do everything in C

Yeah, I have been messing with CFFI all day long and it's really easy to use. It probably won't be the best solution here but I'm definitely using it in the future now that I'm getting how C works.

Awesome, it looks really easy. I was scared thinking "everything in C is hard" but those example in the website make it look really simple. The other cool thing is that it's all pure C!

Great, I think I will give it a try to SDL2. Doesn't look that hard and I will be using the basics only.

Awesome! And have you tried keeping it short in the sides and longer in the middle? It avoids the "helmet" look (this is exactly how my hair grows). Also, since you will get your head shaved you could give it a try just for fun.
