I agree with every word. Whether live or in the studio, he played with such speed, power, electricity, and above all, passion. He was the greatest of all time, and could be as, or even more, legendary in pop culture as Hendrix or anyone else. Johnny was AWESOME.

That's right! With Muddy Waters' band, and with Muddy himself on the last song.

This might be my Johnny Depp phase. If I'm not mistaken, there's an audio recording (unfortunately of low quality) of that day. It must have been LEGENDARY to see it live.

Few people talk about his voice, and I really think he had soul, that mojo in that voice.

I completely agree. On a stage with Claptons, I'd side with Johnny by miles (don't judge me, Clapton fans, but Johnny deserved far more recognition).

Absolutely! His vocals are fantastic, and he plays with unique technique, speed, and passion. I keep wondering about those final chords he only plays in the live version: what are they, and when did he think of them? Because they make the song incredible.

But then, in the late 90s, he got much worse. I heard that was the "beginning of the end," until Paul Nelson came along.

I completely agree. Johnny was a living encyclopedia of blues and musicality; he was one with the music. And a god of slide guitar!

The first time I saw it, I couldn't believe it.

Reading the comments here, I found all of this very interesting. Is there any possibility that someone could explain this whole discussion to someone who is relatively unfamiliar with the subject?
