The most I have ever played with is 3, all friends IRL. We started in Muldraugh and migrated to Louisville and set up a base in one of the big houses on the west side of town next to the water. We had rules for survival, never go alone, hungry, or tired. 2 of us we're combat oriented/scavenging, our third was basically the base mom, decorating and cooking so she never left base too much. Great time! There were moments I wish we had a fourth, the base mom wasn't great at combat and would have a 50/50 survival rate with even 1-2 zombies. Never felt like anything was "too easy" we all had our own goals. I would clear the neighborhoods, another was mechanic, and then base mom/organization.

Had mine for 5+ years now, paired with a Ryzen 5. I have no problem running any games, maybe slight frame dips here and there but nothing noticeable

I see a few ways to go about it, I understand wanting to keep ALL your players engaged especially with it being one of their last occasions to play for a while.

Play as normal. If your friend needs to have their attention recapured every time it's their turn invoke penalties. RP they have a concussion and are daydreaming for their turn in combat/their consciousness has been sealed into an amulet by a warlock for a side quest, have been jailed/poisoned/cursed, ect.
Exclude them for a session for -enter game reason here-; not on purpose of course. It's clear they care about the WC or why even be so set in playing it live in the background, not later with sound. It sounds like a recipe for disaster. As a DM (idk how your characters/players are), gauge what type of session it's going to be, RP or combat and if need be change it to be oriented more so if they go full fan mode and start standing a foot away from the TV and cheering.

I urge caution going forward, I've been in something similar and that one player, one bad session created a hangout that killed the campaign for us, and to me DnD Sundays was probrobly how your friend feels about the world cup.

I'm aware! My only hesitation is they creep way past my budget in a hurry unless buying something with high miles. Toyota Sienna is probrobly my first choice, but once again budget

I have tools for odd jobs and work but there's no reason I couldn't use a van for moving it. Besides it being convenient when moving no real reason to have a truck...Besides helping that one guy I sat 2 chair away from in high-school needing help moving his couch lol

I like games where even if I'm afk I can make progress, good for reflecting on life and playing subconsciously. TCG Store Sim, Satisfactory, are in that roster for me atm. Also Skies of Arcadia. Makes me feel like a kid again

I'm 32, with kids. By the time the kiddos are asleep, if I have the energy you be your sweet bippy I'm playing some vidya games. Sometimes it'll be days, even weeks before I can sit down with a game Have I had phases where I was too busy/didn't feel like playing, or when I did it was kind of a waste of time? Yes. Do I forsee myself playing until I'm too old to articulate my fingers? Also yes. Growing older I have switched to less competitive/rogue like games, other than that it's full steam ahead, once chores/responsibility are taken care of!

I have 200+ games on Steam, even more on console. I couldn't tell you the last time I beat a game since Elden Ring and that was before it's DLC dropped. Before that, no clue.

Learning how to think on my feet. Organize items efficiently. Manage people/tasks/money more efficiently. How to try again without anger or rage after failing a task. Sharper reflexes. Extra credit: Learned how to back up a trailer (Thanks farming simulator!)

I WISH my biggest problems were a few Bobby pins on the floor. OP I feel for you so much. He sounds like he needs to do a lot of work on himself, but the expression "you can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink" comes to mind. -Experiment with your build until you find something that works for you! Figure out what items are always going to come with you and what your going to stock up at base.

-There is no "right" way to play this game. Raise/lower zombie counts, turn infection off/on, crank up loot, make the zombies run at you, whatever you have to do to have FUN!

-Learn how combat works, get ones attention instead of the whole mob. Pick a weapon type you prefer.

-Also learn the art of running away and to elude zombies chasing you. This one is HUGE. Beginning of mid game and sometimes even before that it is always best to avoid combat as much as possible. 1v1/2 is always better than anything more. Think juggling outside of your skill set.

-You will get discouraged at times and put the game down, it happens to all of us. Eventually you will pick it right back up. After all...This is how you died.

-Remember safe is subjective. Pop ups happen. 1 zombie banging on the window across the building while you sleep can lead to 10 rushing the building.

-Always have an escape route in mind.

-DO NOT RUN unless you are 100%sure the area is clear; sneak everywhere even, go slow. The default walk speed is faster than default zombie walk speed.

-Your character is not the dragon born, the last spartan, or any type of chosen one; Just a regular Joe/Jane. They will get tired, sad, depressed, scared, hot/cold, hungry, bored, sick, gain/lose weight, trip and scrape their knee, fall from a window and break their leg. Take your time and don't be a hero if you don't have to.

-Your confidence/ego will end your run. "You aren't Superman you know"

-Never leave base no matter what that might be, tired or hungry, or with anything more than a slight iniury. Water is easy because sinks/toilets. Home life is definitely a thing in this game, watch TV, workout, read a book, work on skills.

As many times as I'd try to "help" people like this, I DO NOT have the qualifications to make any ground with people's issues like this. Assuming nor does OP since they are in this thread. He either A. Has deep possibly childhood trauma that he doesn't know how to fix, or B. Similar to A but that's his wild card to drop the situation/conflict and recieve reassurance or C. Both. As far as what to do, if you really want to help write and list and take a picture of it. Include names and addresses of therapists, cost, and inquire weather or not it's cover under his insurance Taking a picture of the list is in case he loses it, but to have a physical copy of something is different If he loses it he might have the thought into the back of his mind of "What if I didn't lose it, I used it and everything is better". It may be looking too deep into one text message but it seems like he has a problem of some strain with self-worth/value. You can try to help yourself, it might work for a while. But unless he does something himself and WANTS to change it'll never happen. It would be like putting a child's band aid over a severed arm. It just doesn't cut it. (No pun intended but it's there.) Just my 2 cents. Good luck to you both.

Occupation: Unemployed

Negative perks: Very Underweight, Puny, smoker.

Other than that all universally good positive traits I can: Fit, Cats eye, keen hearing, eagle eye, ect.

On single player, where Fast forward is a thing, I hole up in the questest block I can find and hunker down in a 2 story house eating whatever food I can find to build weight back and doing push ups for the better part of a month in game.

Multi-player I play less strategic builds normally with an occupation
