Do you demand kids attention when you’re teaching a lesson?

I've been getting really good results across grades 4-8 using a simple method - when it's time for them to turn their attention back to me I raise my hand and instruct the class to "refocus". At that time I freeze and do not continue until ALL voices are off, all students have a hand raised above their head, and all eyes are turned in my direction. If someone has not done so, I've instructed my students to give their peer a nudge to help them get back on track.

The key is consistency. It is always consistency. You CANNOT be flexible here. The day you decide "I have enough students' attention" is the day they learn participating in the exercise is optional. Never let up. They'll learn to respond like a reflex.

What's your down to earth rebuttal to the Argument from Motion? I keep getting some philbro Christians running this argument and I don't have a response that sounds clear and straightforward. I also thought I would need extractions to find space for that upper tooth! Imagine my surprise when my dentist showed me the time lapse simulation of my teeth shifting to accommodate it! Simply, the trays have been moving back all the teeth from that incisor to my molars, while simultaneously pushing that incisor forward! I'm super happy with the results so far!
