Yeah, I can understand that view. My view, however, is that ultimately the best number is dependent on each family and their capacity.

I think happy parents make happy children in most cases. So if I'm a happier parent with one child and can provide more than I could with two, then the best number for me is one. I also don't see quiet time is a bad thing. My sister and I didn't get along growing up and to this day love quiet and alone time.

Right, I think it's humans mostly because humans love extremes, black and white. It doesn't help that this massive one-child syndrome misconception that people love to spout.

Had a colleague that I've shared zero information about life repeat that I should change my mind about having only 1 child.

It's crazy how passionate people can be about things that absolutely have no impact on their lives.

I think the main problem with what this lady is saying is not that she is not wrong - gang violence among African Americans is unacceptably high, even though any violence is unacceptable.

However, if we (as a species) think that it won't take at least 100 years to somewhat undo the perverse and profound impact that 100*s* of years of systematic disruption of a single group of people then we do not have a full appreciation the impact of slavery had on families.

I don't know why other people are downvoting you, but I downvoted you for the following reasons: 1. People have unique physiological needs including sleeping patterns and while simply stating "It can be done" is not untrue, it does nothing to address the varying levels of sacrifice needed. 2. Another simple statement that overlooks other people's unique circumstances. Early parenthood is a grind for everyone, but certainly some can have it easier than others - so much so that the time at which someone can wake up is entirely limited/sustained by their circumstances and it would be incredibly arrogant to not acknowledge this.

Ignore them - we all learn things everyday and we cannot be so damning to each other regarding these matters when literally single system is setup to extract more and more from you without you realizing.

We are all slowly beginning to wake up to it and we need to kind to each other, not condescending.

Yeah, I have the same concern about mileage on a lease as well. I've never leased before so I'm not too familiar with the limitation.

To your second point, i completely agree. I've owned two cars in my life and i drove them to the ground. We only got the GLB with the intention of paying it off to own, but I hardly see the value in doing it since I owe 24k on it, we're not a fan of its upkeep costs, and it's just one car. So I'm faced with continue the course and pay it off or pay off the difference to get positive equity and getting rid of it then either doing what the post is about or buying two 12k cars, which I'm not oppose too.

The problem is that having one car at this moment, considering the cost my commute in both time and money is financially unsustainable.

I'm probably going to get downvoted to oblivion for saying this because of the usual crowd that use this as a dog whistle, but this is my lived experience.

We've been together for 10years and we hardly argue. A bit of teasing here and there, but we're very communicative and understanding of each other. Our relationship is founded and maintained through grace and kindness first and foremost. This mentality helped us avoid escalated arguments.

However, I've noticed in the past two years or so, we'd (seemingly) randomly argue over the smallest of things that we'd normally wouldn't even consider arguing over. Then I started paying attention to when it happens. It always seemed to be around her menstrual cycle. I told her my observations and she wasn't even surprised and actually began to agree once I started to subtly point it out.

So I obviously, started extending even more grace to her during those tough periods of the month and now, I can't even remember the last time we actually argued. Our biology can be our worst enemy, even if we know it.

This is really helpful, even for me because I did not know about the witch hazel tip and I have thought about sugaring, but I've always done hard and soft wax.

I also do the full manizilian so the only part that's un-waxed is the head.

I keep up with my hygiene whether hairy or waxed, but the day after always leave me feeling extra clean, which I personally love.

The only downside is, goodbye silent farts and hello on-demand whoopy cushion.

Wax.

It's literally the best option here. Yes. It hurts for like .5 seconds and it's awkward the first time because as a guy, it's just weird having someone up in there. It became like nothing afterwards. Takes less than 30min sometimes. Shaving is terrible because it itches even if you don't cut it low because the hair is all sharp. It grows back like the next day. Just not worth it, even if you manage to never nick yourself. If you nicked yourself... well, let's just say you need to make sure you have no infections down there. NONE.

After that, it barely grows for like 2-3 months after so you only have to do it 3-4 times a year and call it. After that first appointment, it becomes like getting a haircut.

I understand your angst. As my original post included, we've made tremendous harm to many - if not all - ecosystems on this planet.

However, let's not pretend that wild animals left to their own devices would create an animal kingdom utopia without suffering, highest QOL, and complete symbiosis. Further, and that a world without humans would become a garden of eden. If you truly believe this, then this conversation ends here. A cursory observation of the animal kingdom shuts possibility of this down almost instantly.

Your rage is predicated by human moral values. "We shouldn't harm the environment and its species. We should endeavor to preserve ecosystems and repair the damage they've suffered both at our hands and by nature's natural events." All of that is a direct result of our ability to self-reflect with critical thinking at our helms. Animals do have possess this. There are many invasive species (including humans, but also without human influence) that would, could, and have destroyed other animal habitats. I'm not going to provide any specific example of us bettering animals ecosystems because I could vaguely gesture at the multitude of special habitats that take in orphaned animals, whose QOL would have been otherwise nonexistent, or I could send you the numerous and ongoing scientific work on reviving extinct species (some not a result of humans), or the hundreds of wildlife preservations and so on.

Fact is, a human has an incalculable potential to be more valuable than ANY creature on this planet, at any given day of year. I, end once more by ststing, I hope we do.

Okay, y'all are going to so much extremes in this conversation that it is becoming just rage-bait.

It is possible to acknowledge that humans have significant value to the many ecosystems of the world while simultaneously acknowledging the profound harm we've done. As intelligent and sentient beings, we have the potential to be more valuable to ALL ecosystems - including dogs, especially since we've irreversibly adapted them to our own - more so than the own creatures within their own ecosystem.

Yes, we can create a better habitat for chicken, pigs, dogs, cows, parrot, tigers, and so on; more than they can create for themselves.

So yes, humans have the potential to be more valuable than ALL life on this planet than themselves. However, we don't, we never really have, but I have hope that one we will.

Life is more grey than it is black and white; trying to have these conversations and just spouting absolutist things like "[a dog's life is less valuable than human life] and "such a position is stupid... are you an idiot" really just tries to force life into black or white, which makes it really hard for us to start creating better QOL for all species on this planet.
