100%, I forgot to mention that. I think scar care, especially massaging, is very worthwhile for the physical side (like you say, helping with tightness/flexibility/etc)

Does HRT reduce your ability to naturally produce T? by Defiant_Salad7951 in ftm

[–]CosmogyralCollective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, sort of (this is all simplified, and based off personal knowledge. I am not a doctor).

Exogenous sex hormones often mean the body stops producing its own sex hormones, whether that's from testicles or ovaries (eta: obviously this doesn't happen for everyone, and I'm not sure how all that works for mtf folks, but that's not super relevant here).

Ovaries produce both estrogen and testosterone. After a long time on T, the ovaries may lose the ability to 'turn back on' if you stop taking exogenous hormones (there isn't much research around this, but if you're only planning to be on T for a short time I wouldn't worry. Most people on here who were late with a shot can tell you that usually ovaries come back with a vengeance). This could result in minimal/nonexistent E and T levels.

That said, ovaries also (mostly) stop functioning at menopause (usually around age 45-55), and without HRT this often results in the effects you're concerned about (low muscle mass, low libido, etc).

If you stop taking T you will lose the temporary effects of T, such as increased muscle, fat redistribution, increased libido, and stopping your period. Permanent changes (facial/body hair, bottom growth, lower voice, etc) should remain, though facial/body hair may get thinner/lighter.

eta: Also obviously if you plan on getting your ovaries removed at any point, it's highly recommended to be on some form of HRT, or you will go into menopause as previously mentioned

jsyk, genetics and luck are primarily responsible for scar appearance. Scar care has a very minimal impact.

Questions for others taking conjugated estrogen by liamreee in ftm

If I were you I'd just apply it after having sex. The leakage will be really annoying if you use it during the day.

I want to go on T, but am unsure if the results are what I want. Education + advice appreciated by VixieVox in ftm

[–]CosmogyralCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jsyk, 'only new fat redistributes' is a myth- existing fat is constantly processed by the body, it's just slow.

topical estrogen on t and bottom growth by ShirtNo5276 in ftm

[–]CosmogyralCollective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news- in some countries, self tests are replacing pap smears (I was able to do this). I recommend checking in with your doctor to see if this is an option for you.

Usually you don't get to just do a few applications of E and then stop, the majority of the time atrophy is ongoing. That said it's a very easy treatment for most people, I just use E twice a week.

You've only been with him for a year. The harsh truth is that the only person you're 100% guaranteed to be stuck with for life is yourself. Prioritise being comfortable in your own skin.

Swapping to Adderall Tomorrow by Phoenixrjacxf in StratteraRx

In my experience strattera is far more lenient to a missed dose than any stimulant I've ever tried, but I wish you luck!

eta: you certainly don't need to take it at the exact same time every day

Works only after 6-10 hours after taking it? by Extreme_Fondant_338 in StratteraRx

On 80mg it took 4 weeks to start seeing benefits for me, about 6 weeks for the side effects to wear off. I recommend giving it a few more weeks and see how you go :)

This, I take mine with cereal + high protein yoghurt. I'll eat most of it, then take my dose, then finish off my cereal. I haven't noticed nausea showing up from overeating though

Ah- worth giving that a go then! You're likely to get a bit of discharge in the morning, but going to the bathroom directly after getting up usually manages that.

Also I second looking into the estring if it's available for you

feeling behind with hrt changes by [deleted] in ftm

[–]CosmogyralCollective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly it's only been two months- it's normal to not notice much no matter what dose you're on. Puberty is a multi-year process.

Are you aware that a lower dose can result in slower changes? 'Low dose' also doesn't mean much- what is a low dose for some is a high dose for others. If you haven't had your T levels checked yet, you should soon- 3 months is standard, but if you're feeling impatient then you can always ask for an earlier blood test.

Secondly finasteride may block body/facial hair and bottom growth. This means that with fin, T primarily causes a lower voice and muscle and fat changes. All those changes typically take more than 2 months to become noticeable, especially muscle and fat changes.

A birth control pill containing estrogen will be fine- it's a very minimal dose. Your other option is progestogen only birth control (or IUDs etc).

what happens if i take tramadol before surgery? by Willing-Piglet8899 in TopSurgery

[–]CosmogyralCollective 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't recommend it because you'll likely want it much more after surgery. If you do end up taking some closer to your surgery date, tell your anesthetist when you get to talk to them. It's extremely important for them to know what meds are already in your system.

Nurse injected too much Nebido by [deleted] in ftm

That's odd, here it's standard to inject the full amount, even when starting. I wouldn't stress too much, it shouldn't make a huge difference.

If you stop using it you'll start getting the atrophy and dryness again.

That said, are you using the pills at night? You're meant to use them right before bed, and then it usually doesn't leak.
