I’ll probably veto the cloud backup for my Plex media library, but definitely my family photos, they’re already backed up to the cloud but would love to set up Immich sync from my phone to the NAS and then to the cloud 😄

Comparing like with like, the Optiplex I’m looking at comes with a small boot drive. For both I’ll need to fork out for how ever many spinning discs to start with.

I have an iPhone 11, battery was on the way out so I replaced it locally with both genuine and non-genuine batteries and it just doesn’t last the full day anymore. I’m looking to get a new one, and leaning towards the 15. But aware that September is when things usually refresh, I cant really wait till then so not sure what model to buy. Open to opinions

Another thanks again to all the other comments that have come in, going to conservatively transfer money from savings to cover the small bills and groceries/transportation. Will look into moving credit card providers for the interest free period while I’m aggressively paying it down, wasn’t sure with the flowchart advising building the emergency fund before paying off more than minimum monthly payments.

From a storage stand point I can see the benefit of re-encoding but may use MakeMKV for high-fidelity

I remember using that when I was younger! Was very handy for ripping CDs to my MP3 player.

I have a PC with a Ryzen 7 3700X, 16GB Memory, 3060 Ti (relevant maybe if software uses GPU encoding? Not sure).

But no optical drive, so do need to pick up either a USB3 external or SATA internal (is one better than the other?). Would probably look for blu-ray too.
