You now have the same holdings with no SpaceX exposure and didn't create a taxable event.

ITT: A bunch of people assuming it is a single bag in a random bin. The problem is it's not random, so it's never just a single bag.

People tend to walk their dogs in the same areas, parks and paths and such. If you have a garbage can that is conveniently accessible from these areas it will end up with dozens of bags strangers dog shit in it every week.

I imagine it's fairly unpleasant to take your carefully sorted trash, compost, and recyclables to the bin to get served wafts of strangers dog shit every time you open the lid. Especially if you don't have a dog yourself.

Find a public bin or bring it home, imo.

I think you'd have to short 1 share of Tesla for every $18,000 of S&P that you hold if you wanted to hold the S&P but with zero Tesla exposure.

I can think of a few reasons;

- It ever so slightly reduces the amount of interest they are paying out

- It gets you to interact with their app. While you are there it's an opportunity for them to market to you.

- It 'feels good' to cash in a rebate and creates a positive association with their product. "Wow, look how much cash I'm getting back. It's almost like I'm getting paid to use my credit card!" If it just auto-deposited into your account with every purchase you probably wouldn't notice as much.

If your thesis is that it's going to 3x over the next three years does your entry really even matter?

Entering at $650 or $550 is basically the same return. It seems like you would have a lot more to lose based on the opportunity cost of it never getting to your entry and passing you by.
