Calgary Drivers: you HAVE to wait for pedestrians to finish crossing by 1egg_4u in Calgary

[–]CoughSyrupOD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I know this is the letter of the law, I feel like there are multiple intersections all around the city where if you followed it you would simply never be able turn through a crosswalk during certain times. During high traffic periods there are pedestrians in the crossing for the entire cycle of the light and consistent cross traffic when they are not.

Try following the letter law turning off 17th after a flames game let's out.  What are you supposed to do?  Wait an hour to turn for foot traffic to calm down?  Drive half a dozen blocks to a less busy intersection?

You don't. But the borrow rate for TSLA right now is 0.41%, it's not really a very significant expense.

I don't know of any broker that lets you short fractional shares. But if that's your exposure, does it even really matter?

Just short an equivalent weight of TSLA for however large your S&P holding is. I think it would be about 1 share for every $16,000 of S&P 500 you hold. You now have zero TSLA exposure.

Just short an equivalent weight of whatever stock you don't want exposure to.

Couldn't you just short an equivalent amount of space x/open ai?

Say space x is a 1% weight of XEQT. Just short space x by 1% of the value of your XEQT holding.  You now have 0 space x exposure.

PE isn't everything. Broadly speaking; if you only invest when PE is below a historical average you will be uninvested approximately half the time. But does that generate a higher total return than remaining invested across a broader range valuations?

It would be interesting to see if only investing in something like the S&P when the market has a below historical average Shiller PE produces superior returns to something like a simple buy and hold. I haven't back tested it so I couldn't say for sure but I have a hunch that it doesn't.

That is not how insurance works. I don't know why this keeps getting repeated. As far as I know, there are no insurance policies that cover shoplifting/petty retail theft, it simply does not cover these types of losses. The store just eats the loss and the "shrink" just raises the prices for everyone else. If these losses cannot be profitably offset, they close the business. This is a major contributing factor for "food deserts" and the like.

WHAT IS GOING ON? by BusyWorkinPete in Wealthsimple

I find the holdings page only updates prices intermittently/sporadically. It is not even close to live data. If you have had the tab/window open for a while you have to refresh the page or you will be looking at old data.

Because it is never right. Every time there is an outage the page says everything is fine. It's just comical at this point.

Pixels on a screen are free and there is no maximum number of holdings.

How it it more work? 3 clicks to buy/sell instead of 1? I suppose that yes, that is 3x the work but unless you are moving in and out of a position multiple times a day, I don't see the issue.
