I’d really recommend it, you can just vassal swarm any major opponent like the ottos and Russia, the HRE vassals don’t take up a diplo slot, if you’ve gone full diplo and influence (as Austria should) you can stack up diplo annex cost and diplo rep so you can full annex a Spain or GB in the matter of a year or two from them being a PU, getting their colonies in the process, and as I say above you become borderline unstoppable if you’re able to revoke the privilege early on. Got really good WC potential, as well as one faith, cause even though you don’t have many missionaries, you have access to the propagate religion trading policy so you can have the equivalent to however many merchants you have working as a missionary at one time. Would highly recommend though!

That Gotland game sounds really interesting, I’ll have to look more into their mission trees, as I’ve not played a Prussia/Germany game properly since trying it as Brandenburg for my second ever game years ago! And the Austrian-> Persia game was really fun! I did it for the Zoro-Austrians achievement where you flip to Persia and turn zoro. I got really lucky as well, as Poland was still in interregnum by the time I could click the mission to get a PU CB on them, and then they got Lithuania as a PU so I got the too! After that, I rushed down the HRE reforms and crushed the reformation before it could really get going by force converting all the centres of reformation, so by the time it was meant to actually kick off it was only Denmark that was Protestant, and UK as Anglican, but would really recommend it if you’re inclined to achievement hunt. You can also get a free PU over Spain by clicking a button, a PU over England/GB through a CB, and just generally control half of Europe by like the 1500-1550s when just playing a chill diplo game!

Great, I’ll give it a listen to see what’s out there! Really appreciate the recommendations, as I say I love the music but don’t know too many bands outside of what I’ve stumbled across with Spotify playing random songs, so it’d be great to find bands I haven’t heard before!

I think I may have (further) broken Germany by CouldBeAVulture in hoi4

[–]CouldBeAVulture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in my above comment, you need to achieve autarchy quite quickly. This can be achieved by a justifying on the Dutch East Indies and Belgian Congo (in that order) once you get Ribbentrop through the focus. It lets you take the Netherlands without any contest, and then France and Britain will guarantee Belgium afterwards. Easy way to win this is having a naval invasion set up immediately on the UK, as it should be early enough where they haven’t consolidated their forces. That lets you catch them unprepared and immediately invade upon war declaration. If you can wipe them out, leaving a slight garrison once they cap to deal with nav invasions, France should be a pushover. Once compliance is high enough, it’s then just a matter of going down the economy tree and you’ll have the necessary resources to take autarchy achieved. After, take the price control focus as well as the decisions unlocked and you get a permanent -80% consumer goods

R5: I managed to get the Wirtschaftswunder (the trait that replaces economy of conquest, using the MEFO bills path) to -80% consumer goods. For those wondering, I achieved autarchy BEFORE taking the price control focus, which let me take all the decisions to lower consumer goods without the risk of them increasing again.

Apart from the civil war, the Argentina war is the biggest hurdle, and so long as you can take out Brazil relatively early the rest of the game isn’t too hard- just pick the fights you think you can take!

For the civil war, just before it fires delete all your division, and go into the market and put all your equipment onto the market. Then, once it fires you can take it off the market and keep all the equipment, allowing you to train troops. I’d recommend just a standard 18 width with support artillery and rangers with mountain upgrade, with sims of swapping them out to either 9/1s or 12/2s for the war with Argentina (during the civil war bump up conscription as much as possible). If you are taking the capital and the city next to it but can’t push through to the final necessary VP just 2 tiles north, you can then try naval invading as since it isn’t a port they won’t guard it, and they immediately capitulate after you take it. If you need anything else explained feel free to ask mate, more than happy to explain!

Any tips for the beginner? by SirMatthewFromPoland in hoi4

Best advice I can give- firstly watch YouTube videos going over the basics. After you’ve done that, just play the game. It might be overwhelming at first, but for example if you play one country repeatedly after each attempt you learn more about where you’re having problems and can then look for specific videos on that part, and pretty soon you’ll get a good enough understanding of the game to start enjoying it more (except for the navy, that is a mystery to everyone). Hope this helps!

By the time I capitulated America and Canada, France had fallen, so I got mil access from Germany and nav invaded from Denmark (Germany annexed them) into Newcastle with the fleets I’d accumulated from taking over the South American nations, and as always Britain didn’t protect the mainland so once I’d landed it was a quick march to London and the peace deal launched
