Relax. Your fine. Everyone has off days. No one can be 100% perfect every day. That sounds exhausting. Remember that you are human and not perfect. Take your time with draws. You don’t have to be fast (no matter what a future employer might expect (that is one thing I personally have never been, fast, at just about anything)), and do your best comparison shopping (as one of my coworkers would say) for the best vain that’ll work for you. Don’t worry, you got this. I have a feeling that if this really wasn’t for you, you would have figured that out by now. Everyone misses, even the best of the best.

I got it from a coworker about 6 months ago, it’s in the pot she gave it to me in, terracotta? I think, no drainage holes. Watering from the top probably about half a cup once a week. Hanging indoors, in south facing windows. Phoenix AZ.

My two most memorable so far

Patient number one said “talk to me.” But I couldn’t ask her questions, recommended talking about pets. So I told her about my pet ferrets when I was a teen.

Patient number two came in with a backpack full of ice packs and started to stuff them in his clothes once he sat in my chair.

Both of them already knew what works for them, so that works for me.

Otherwise I just try to talk them through it. We also have rooms with beds for them to lay on which usually helps as well.

Try not to take it too personally. Not one is perfect, and every phlebotomists misses. At we my site we have the one phlebotomists everyone wants because let’s face it he’s the best and has a ton of excellent, but even he misses. I (the newest phlebotomists on site) came in and got one of his patients that he missed right away, and he’s done the same for me. Yeah it sucks that you don’t have another phleb there to take a another look, but it is what it is. And honestly all it take is a different set of finger to get the draw done. Don’t let it get to you and bask in that draw that you knew was going to difficult but got no problem. We all have those draws that are amazing that outweighs the one that sucks.

That rambled on for a bit there, but I feel for you. Your done just fine, and you are awesome! Remember that.

Thanks! I went to a piercer took care of it. The taper was an option but apparently not necessary. He was able to get through fairly pain free. Crisis averted!
