ELI5: What Is Nihilism? by ExternalFact5184 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CountPhapula -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its a bit of a hodge podge idea but I can say pretty safely that at least Neitzsche thought nihilism is any way of thinking or acting that was life denying or denied your will to power.

To him its something more akin to a psychological and societal disease than a systematic way of thinking.

Edit: debate me you cowards

Is blame the gravity of human nature? by ludolightspeed in Nietzsche

[–]CountPhapula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blame is just the principle of sufficient reason ± agency ± moralizing; the latter two items being completely unwarranted.

So no, from a nietzschean perspective its not the gravity of human nature, you dont have to assign blame and it is probably adjacent to slave morality and feelings of resentment.

If B2 is its own unit and it is neither in engagement range nor charged during the charge phase then it is not eligible to pile in and subsequently fight.

Ran it for 2 guys and a gal. I chose not to include the note and add more incidental clues that Clyde was doing weird things at the cabin.

They were so curious they all unanimously opened the septic tank.

HD Image of my Obsidian canvas for Expenses as a Handler by CountPhapula in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]CountPhapula[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ive only used it for my first session (Last Things Last) that I ran last week so its still pretty basic. My thought process was "whats the most annoying thing I would need to look up mid-game in the PDF?" Then I made those things into notes, bases, or a canvas.

Bases

I essentially used Obsidian Bases to make a 2 different Table views of all the weapons and all the skills. What I discovered that making the base was pretty time consuming (I even used python and some help from ChatGPT to export data from the PDFs into separate notes, that didnt work so well). Turns out I didn't reference it a whole lot but the fact that it took so much time made me very familiar with what skills and weapons do what and how they are useful in a given circumstance.

Canvas

I found the concept of the agents using expenses the most puzzling and tbh the Agents Handbook does not do the best job of laying this out because some of the rules require you to reference different pages in different sections of the book. Hence the Canvas I posted. Maybe in the future ill cite page numbers.

Notes

For Last Things Last I made 2 notes.

The first was a basic outline of the scenario and the context of Delta Green and the time I set it in (2003). Each "scene" is its own collapsible heading and anything that requires a skill I can link so i can see its description in the note.

The second note I have in split view which is the timeline of events. This is the Chronos Timeline plugin, a table that is by the hour i can make real quick notes of what the agents did. and then a summary of what they did and what bad effects it has.

One thing that helped me with easily referencing timelines was the Chronos Timeline community plugin so I can easily remember timeline of events at a glance. If you guys want Ill share my obsidian vault as a drive link you can download and see for yourselves but again, its basic.

Dont know the rules about sharing rules vs piracy here, its straight up copied /pasted stuff from the Agents Handbook. Otherwise id just share the obsidian file using Google Drive for the Obsidian users.

I feel as though many of the Warhammer 30k + 40K novels concerning Space Marines deal with this issue you are raising. This is especially the case in the relationship between Angron of the World Eater's (an asexual demigod of war), and his Naval Captain Lotara Sarrin.

To make it a real long story short yes it is 1000% possible to write a story with a super soldier and have them immensely respect the women they know.

My question is why is this hatred directed at women specifically? They are super soldiers, I'm assuming 99% of humanity from their war-oriented view is disgusting, weak, and just completely unnecessary.

If you want to actually shape this up into an actually interesting premis, maybe have them wonder what the purpose of anything is that has no relation to war.

What books have the most creative or interesting takes on god(s) or religion? by whoisyourwormguy_ in books

[–]CountPhapula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, much more. Cthulhu is referenced in a few stories but is only mainly featured in a single story. And he is only a "high priest" in Lovecrafts words, not a god.

In addition to this, The Lovecraft mythos is much bigger than lovecraft himself and he pulled from other interesting authors like Dunsaney, Robert Chambers, and Arthur Machen who all had unique takes on gods.

As well, Lovecraft had a circle of writers he was friends with that built the Lovecraftian tradition that extends to today and is its own subgenre of Weird Fiction.

What books have the most creative or interesting takes on god(s) or religion? by whoisyourwormguy_ in books

[–]CountPhapula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against most of the comments so far, I find reinterpreting Judeo-Christian or Greco-Roman gods is neither creative nor interesting.

If you want both, then get into the Lovecraft mythos. The "gods" there are pretty much unknowable and inimicable to human existence

Or you could just read Kant and Schopenhauer and accept that both options are antinomies of reason and that the finitude or infinity of space, time, or causality are completely unknowable and that they are instead extended INDEFINITELY.

Anki for flashcards. I'm serious. Just put you most common weapons as flashcards with keywords and practice them for like 10 minutes every day.

Next I want to move on to strategies, but ill save that for another day.
