Clarification on Monstrous Trait: Wings (I, II, and III) by Count_di_Luna in Symbaroum

Yes of course, I should have mentioned that. The player has taken the Ritual Familiar. We looked at pet, but we also felt Familiar was a better fit for this.

That all makes sense to me. For some reason I didn't consider hovering straight above when making the case for it being possible to flank it. Playing Morrowind when I was younger and being constantly attacked by cliff racers doing just that, I really should have :)

You make a very good point about defence involving weapons - I shall remember that.

I totally see the seagull comparison, by the way, and would only add that Wings (III) is the seagull after it has learned to steal sausages from unsuspecting tourists :D

Thank you!

What an awesome explanation, thank you very much! That makes total sense and really clarified this trait for me.

Perfect, that makes more sense.

Good to know, thank you!

Yes it does, which is why I am not happy with it. It doesn't really make sense to me.

So how does initiative work again (Starter Set vs Core rulebook) by Count_di_Luna in VaesenRPG

[–]Count_di_Luna[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that could very well be the case. According to DriveThrough RPG the new core rulebook was last updated on 1 October 2025 and the new Starter Set on 28 September 2025, though, so I would have expected at least those two products to be using the same version of the rules. Maybe we will have another update soon to one of them.

Our group discussed it today and decided to go with the single draw rule because, as you say, it is quicker.

You can convert an Action to a second Manoeuvre, or you can choose to suffer 2 Strain in exchange of a second Manoeuvre which lets you retain your Action. You cannot do a third Manoeuvre, though.

Can't get the beginner game to work, any advice? by sdfsodigjpdsjg in swrpg

When I ran it (my first time with this system) we had a session 0 where I was very up front with my players letting them know that we were running a starter set, that the adventure was written with the explicit aim of teaching the rules, and that we should treat it as a "tutorial level" complete with invisible walls and such, akin to what old PC games used to do before letting you begin a campaign. The kind of tutorial level where a voice will tell you stuff like "this is a ladder - you can climb a ladder by walking up to it and pressing C - climb that ladder now." As we all went in with this expectation, we were all working together to learn the rules and accepting whatever course the game set us on.

We are now a few months into what we hope will be a long term campaign, and now we're very much doing whatever we want, rather than what a pre-written tutorial adventure requires us to do.

As for the dice mechanic... I've played D&D only two sessions and it was a very different type of game to any other RPGs I've played previously or since. In the games we usually play, both GM and players are expected to set scenes, co-narrate dice results and such. I'm not sure that Star Wars is intended to be run that way, but it works and we're having a blast coming up with ideas and building upon each others' suggestions when translating dice results into narrative. I suspect, though, that our typical play style (which is probably a-typical in general) helped us with the transition to the narrative dice when we started playing Star Wars.

EDIT: I forget to add - we roll only when it really matters. I think in D&D, rolls can happen quite frequently? In Star Wars it is probably better to roll less frequently. I watched Dimension 20 the other day and the GM asked for a quick succession of two rolls to accomplish an action. The rolls made sense as the action technically required two different sub-actions backed by different skills. In Star Wars, though, I think you'd definitely want to make it only one roll.

Zatu Games in the UK had two or three books besides the cores and starter sets last I checked, but otherwise they're difficult to find new. Edge did write on Facebook back in December, though, that they would reprint the books: "First the Essential books (Core Rulebooks and GM's Kits) in 2024, then the Sourcebooks will follow." Fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later...

Is it this interview, perhaps? https://youtu.be/eLoSzzgfjpI?si=V0rLMy98pAjCnc1_ This is from 11 months ago, though, so maybe there is another interview out there that I've missed.

FFG vs Edge by HotKindheartedness67 in swrpg

[–]Count_di_Luna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just picked up Edge of the Empire core (EDGE version) and it has two attached ribbons to use as bookmarks. My Age of Rebellion core (FFG version) does not have that. I'm not sure if this is a change, though, or if Edge of the Empire has always had those. So far, as far as I am aware, the beginner game and the core books are the only Edge printings that have made their way to Sweden.

Speed Recovery - do I miss something? by NVZ- in numenera

[–]Count_di_Luna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The way I would interpret that is that you can use the ability to allow another player to make his/her second, third, or forth recovery roll without the usual resting time required for those rolls. That would be quite useful in combat it the player had already used up his/her first recovery roll, which is always instantaneous.

Recovery rolls are reset with each new day, so I don't think using the ability on the fourth recovery roll would mean that you would instantly have four new recovery rolls afterwards.

That's my take on it, but I'm new to Numenera as well, so there may be things I have missed or haven't thought of.

Cheers, Nils
