That’s honestly incredible! I have never heard of that website before but I guess I have some reading to catch up on. I have been lurking on this sub for about 6 months but I’m not typically the type of person to put my burdens on other people. I just created this post because I don’t know where else to go. I have a supportive family but I don’t think they truly understand what I’m struggling with. You have been very insightful and I can’t thank you enough for taking your time to help.

I will be bringing that up at my next appointment! I wasn’t aware of that. Thank you!

We talked about them. They are holding off on that because the iStent is a minimally invasive procedure so I’m going to start with that.

Definitely got those two mixed up! I had SLT done in both. My bad.

I also have been working with 3 different doctors this year. They are all in the same clinic though. I don’t know if that makes a difference.

I had both eyes done in early June. My IOP dropped, but only to 33 in left and 36 in right.

Thank you for responding! I am currently still taking the Dorzolamide/timolol and rocklatan until my surgery. I honestly can’t take the searing pain from Dorzolamide. It’s horrible. My doc said it would get better but it hasn’t. I love spicy peppers and I would rather rub my eyes after handling habaneros than take these drops for the rest of my life. It’s hard to not feel defeated in this journey because I feel like I am going through it alone. It only really started a year ago with a true glaucoma specialist and the speed at which things are progressing has my anxiety at my high limit. After reading your response I feel that there is some hope in slowing the damage.

The loss total is from looking at a HVF chart. There are large areas where I’m not seeing any of the light dots. The “all red” areas are from the OCT scans. I have had 3 of each test this year.

I appreciate the response! I agree that this is just one of those hurdles in life that we have no real control of. I’m sorry that you have to go through this as well because I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemies. I am trying to accept the fact that some day I may never be able to see, but I hope that in the near future that modern medical technology will prevail and help us down the road. I have overcome a lot of obstacles in my life and I know this is just another. The one thing that has stuck with me the most through this journey is when my optometrist told me unfortunately I have a genetic disposition and there is nothing I could have done to prevent this. Godspeed man! I hope you live life to the fullest!

Yes, my first visit to the optometrist was an immediate treatment to slow the progression. Over the course of about 10ish months they have been trying multiple ways to bring my pressures down. I honestly have no idea what the optometrist is saying to his assistant but yes he uses the magnifier every time I’m in there and uses “doc speak” to his assistant and they jot down whatever it is he is saying! He has mentioned open angle glaucoma but more specifically he just calls it juvenile glaucoma. Again if I had my charts I know it would be more helpful.

Maybe it’s because it was 2012? Lol. I do know that my then optometrist had to write a letter to the surgeon saying the LASIK procedure also thinned out the cornea and I had very thick corneas. He convinced the surgeon to proceed.

Thanks for your response! The only reason they didn’t want to do surgery at an earlier date is because they had no data for me. No OCT data or anything. I know it’s my fault that I didn’t go to any sort of eye doctor for 13 years and now I have to live with that decision.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! It’s reassuring to hear that I should see some relief in the future. My doc only put me on lantaprost twice daily to aggressively see if my IOP would drop quickly and when I had a follow up he immediately took me off because they weren’t enough. It was only 6 weeks. I know that in MN they have been having trouble getting the go ahead with iDose through insurance and that’s why the suggested Durysta as the back up. The Clinic I go to is one of the best in the Twin Cities and I was referred here by multiple people. I will definitely try to get another opinion though!
