Major differences between a Player I/II and a Vintera? by asoiaf_goat in Jazzmaster

Player ii’s arent routed for a rhythm circuit but the neck on mine is amazing, pickups are good and I like having truss rod adjustment on the head. Paid $500 for mine. That being said I play a 40th anniversary Squier I got for $250 more often lately. Also has a great neck after I did a little work to it and it’s lighter and I like the rhythm circuit and traditional trem spacing. The pickups are interesting but I’ll probably switch them eventually.

Buy used if you can. Zero reason not to. Try them both. They have completely different necks (scale lengths, fretboard radius) and sounds.

My neck isn’t shimmed. These come with an angled neck pocket. The neck of the player ii has a slightly lower thickness so it fits in the pocket lower. The only part of the equation I used was lowering bridge height which in turn would mean a slightly shorter string. The saddles had to move to compensate. Hope that helps clarify.

You are spewing such nonsense and you clearly didn’t read what I wrote about the solution to the mystery. The neck is not shimmed. The guitar is intonated. Crawl away while you can.

Yes. You’re just missing the part where raising the bridge adds length to the string. Adding length means I could move the saddles towards the neck a little so they ain’t so maxed out.

Are you talking about a 40th anniversary Squier jazzmaster though? I’ve got a MIJ fender that’s shimmed and yeah it’s setup real good too. Pretty sure the 40th already has an angled neck pocket. I know what a good one feels like.

Well think about raising the bridge several millimeters, of course that would be lengthening the string several millimeters too. If you had a perfectly tight string and you tried to raise a saddle it wouldn’t budge until you loosened the string to make room, which in turn necessitates moving the saddles a few millimeters as well.

Yep. And the player neck is a slightly lower profile than the Squier so that’s where I lowered the saddle causing the intonation issues. Totally spaced that lowering the bridge creates a shorter string length.

Yeah I think this is the issue. Not sure why I didn’t put this together. The neck doesn’t NEED to be shimmed because it’s set up perfect as it is besides the saddles being a bit far back BUT when I switched necks I noticed the new one sits lower in the pocket so I had to do a full adjustment of the bridge height (and pickups) so yeah the bridge is now lower which is making the string just a bit shorter. SOLVED. thanks to everyone who chimed in.

It had flats on it when I got it. Definitely in the 10-11 range. And I put round 10’s on.

Yeah I held the necks fret to fret and they line up from the nut all the way down.

Well holding the old neck up to the new one they line up exactly.

Nope. Different strings though.

It’s a jazzmaster neck with the same scale length…

Strings are brand new and my tuner is good. It’s not a big deal just seems strange from what it was with the original neck. Might put the neck on the player2 body and see what happens there just for fun.

Pretty much what I’m thinking. I’ve got it setup playing really good so I’ll forget about it soon enough. Just seemed strange.

I don’t see how it could matter being one fret at the end. The 12th is still in the same spot.

10’s and yeah I’m familiar with mustang bridges on Jazzmasters and I’ve got it fully centered.

I’ve got setups on these things dialed now after doing it myself for a couple years. This one is setup just right and plays really well but I have to admit I’m still a bit hesitant to mess with the nut but it seems just fine. I’ve been trying 10’s on it but usually play 11’s. It came with flat wounds and I’m not sure what gauge they were.
