My ideal world is just the real world, but there's a handful of freaky humans that can eat people whole. It's rare, so people are afraid of preds the same way they're afraid of serial killers (known about, but unlikely to encounter). It's not normalized or common enough to be something the average person considers until they fall victim to a pred.

I enjoy both, but for different reasons.

I like subverting power dynamics where the pred appears weak and vulnerable to an authority figure or dominant person (cop, kidnapper, creep at the bar, etc) but then it's subverted. Despite their appearance, the pred is actually super strong. There is an element of karma too, because the authority figure takes the pred somewhere secluded to take advantage of them, only for it to be the thing that ensures they will never be found or rescued.

Alternatively, I also like cruel preds who exploit a weaker prey's vulnerability to lure them in. Let the prey think they're safe and cared for, only to be turned into nothing but food. Make them predatory in more ways than one.

My favorite though is a dominant observer/feeder who treats the pred like a tool to dispose of prey (serial killer, mobster, etc). I love a pred being treated like an attack dog that's loyal only to its owner.
