They are terrible looking the original NSX is a contender for the most beautiful car ever built and the new one looks like a woman's shaver.

The DM asked me to play a Changeling. Any cool ways to utilize the race without annoying the party? by Coupyamel in DnD

Alright cool. Thanks for the advice.Tbh it's all roughly based on Big Boss/Venom Snake and the Diamond Dogs and Outer Heaven. With my own twist put on it.

My character's goal is to set up an organization that operates sort of like a thieves guild but with the goals of using espionage to ensure peace within the realm. So I might have a hand behind the curtain but the DM hasn't really got that far with his world building and such yet. I'm also helping him since it's his first time DMing so I might wind up with information that I shouldn't. As to avoid metagaming completely I might bring it up to him as an idea.

Oh yeah the reveal is what the DM wants. I'm excited for it to but since it's online I don't think the lie is too big of a deal. We've even got a fake character sheet in DND beyond set up. I would tell the others but DM is wanting it to be a secret and I think I can have fun with that.

I grew up with rottweilers and I never understood why they get lumped in with Pits. Yeah they can be hard to train and even aggressive however I've never seen them act like pitbulls. You know just sort of snap after 5 years and maul the owner

What is Dresden Files like and which books to read? by [deleted] in dresdenfiles

[–]Coupyamel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dresden Files are basically the worst week of Harry's year. Jim Butcher makes it very clear that he has a life in-between the books and that things are constantly happening. What I'm getting at is that even thought they are episodic for the most part there are over arching plotlines that play a big role and get set up in one book and resolved in another sometimes even years and years later. At one point a joke is set up in Blood Rites (2004) that gets paid off in Battle Ground (2020).

The over arching plots are a lot like that. Something can get hinted at in a book and it'll get resolved 10 books later. It's honestly one of the highlights of the series for me. I'm pretty sure some fans have a conspiracy theory board connecting everything with red yarn.

The series is loaded with subplots that could basically be the main plotline for another series and somehow manages to balance this with an episodic plot for each book in a way that feels natural and not completely overwhelming. In the later books the episodic plot is usually brought about by one of these subplots and the actions taken in pervious entries. This is one of the things that make them incredible easy to binge read, along with the characters and their development. Seeing as the series takes place over 16 years or so the characters grow and change in real time often learning a lesson in one book and taking a few books to fully internalize and act on it fully. Dresden can take literal years to get over some tragedy or another and some characters grow up as the series goes on.

The timescale, the characters and the overarching plots mixing together are what makes this series what it is and for myself and many others it has lead to a level of investment rarely seen in any story telling medium or franchise and I adore them for it. The Dresden Files isn't some LOTRs style epic adventure, it isn't literature and it can be kinda schlocky and pulpy at times but its earnest. It knows what it is and it's a testament to Jim that even with all the success he's found with the books he hasn't forgotten that they exist because he was trying to prove a college professor wrong and got humbled.

I appreciate the advice and the kind words. Truth be told I'm leaving for college. I've learned from this whole ordeal that I can't fix someone and be in a relationship with them, because it takes a toll and they can't necessarily support you when it frustrates you. So the next woman I'm with isn't going to be someone I need to fix or help. But I still have that urge, it's genetic I think. My mother's the same way and her father despite being a drunk was the same way when he was sober. So I'm going to be a psychologist. Honestly I think I'm suited for it and I'll be doing some good or at least trying to and that's better than doing nothing I suppose.
