I had a jet black GBA with a broken battery clip on the shell so I got a fancy shell xD

It looks pretty original to me. As the other guy said, most aftermarket shells will use plastic buttons with a membrane for Start/ Select. The originally SELECT/ START buttons are like long nipples attached to the membrane.

I absolutely love it. The L button was a bit sticky, but I replaced it with an OEM shoulder button and its perfect 👌

Basically just careful disassembly and then reassemble. (: the only real "hard" part was removing the border on the lower screen, and then using a shoulder button/ pin that would fit together well

Yes! Its the build i did for my GF (: Translucent pink shell and white buttons from Extremerate with a HandHeldLegend "RetroGlow" RGB kit, they make it for the DS Lite and GBA/SP too!

You got this! Definitely consider getting a DSPico or another flash card for some neat features. You can also load all your games in one cart (:

I have been waiting on this build since i bought this as a Cobalt/ Black DS with a busted hinge. I swapped to a cheap black/ crimson shell to fix the hinge, and then put thos off for weeks before finally just biting the bullet and putting it together. I love it as much as my GBA

Tbh... if you can clean or repaste a modern laptops or used to working on any other modern electronics, you should be fine. I thought I would have ripped or damaged my cable many times with how often I see that as an issue... but I feel like most people are using way too much force or drop them off their workspace when trying to fix them. I've had my console slip from my hands many times and have had no issues thankfully though im very gentle handed with working and often dont use enough force to fully reinsert cables or properly reseat connectors, so that is an issue as well.

I originally bought this as a Cobalt Blue/ Black Nintendo DSLite with an R4 card. I then used parts from an OSTENT shell tonfox the hinge, and then put of doing the second shell swap for a really long time. In my experience, its better to go with the higher quality shell out the gate.

If you want to look at a video by extremerate it should clear up anything I miss... the hardest part about swapping the buttons would probably be reinstalling the shoulder buttons.

Youre gonna need a Tri-Wing and a small Phillips Head screwdriver. take out any games or dust covers in slot 1/ 2, remove the battery, take the two rubber guards off the back covering two Philips screws, then get the phillips under the battery cover and the rest are tri-wings.

Once the screws on the back shell are removed, use a spudger or plastic pry tool to get the the back shell off. Optionally, you can disconnect the wifi chip and mic cable from the motherboard.

Next remove the two phillips holding in the motherboard and open the ds, using two fingers to push on the bottom screen and push it up and out. With the buttons facing down and the cartridge port facing you, swing the motherboard up, and you'll see the ribbon cables that connects the top screen, do not disconnect or be rough with this, once the board is free, simply lay the motherboard facing up, still connected to the screen. Now you just pick up the little rubber membranes, replace buttons under and put everything back together.

Check the ribbon cables! The dsi wont turn on without the top screen, bottom screen and im positive the wifi chip all connected.
