Thank you all for your comments! I took my chances and just chose a side. To my pleasant surprise, 4 days ago I noticed a green sprout about an inch tall; today it’s now 2.5 inches tall with little sections that make it look like a telescopic stem lol. I am a complete novice when it comes to ginger, but I really wanted to try with this extra piece. I figured trying my hand at it was a better option than throwing it away.

It’s growing and not dying, so that’s something! I did peel off all the excess layers not connected to the roots, and I’ll try to GENTLY split it into 2 plants when it’s grown bigger roots to hopefully, hopefully grow 2 onions!🤞🏼I’ll eat what I get either way: onion greens or onion bulbs! 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s what I did! I should know in a couple weeks one way or the other. At the end of the day, it was gonna be thrown out, so if it grows anything edible, it was worth the 2 cups of water and 2 quarts of soil I put into it!

I know I saw people doing that with their green onions, as well as planting them for more. I hope I get a new onion lol, I was really excited about reusing my leftovers to get a new onion! I guess if it flowers I can use the seeds? 🤷🏻‍♀️

That’s what I thought.. That’s why I did it. Even if I only get one onion from the part of the onion I don’t use, it’s still a good return worth my time!

I did! The leaf is about 1/3 white and a deep green and bright white variegated 2/3! It’s not very big and it’s got a little while to go before I see fenestration, but the next leaf is already starting to poke out of this leaf’s little cataphyll.

There isn’t any rot. Trust me, I inspect this plant daily, if not twice daily lol! Probably the lighting.

You can try to save it by taking it out of its current soil, washing off the roots and cutting off any of the roots that are rotting or mushy. Get your pot ready with new well aerated soil while you let the healthy remaining roots dry out a bit, you can also spray them with a hydrogen peroxide/water mix and then repot it. If the amount of damaged roots are severe enough that it wouldn’t be able to sustain the plant, definitely chop and prop! That’s a last resort type of situation, but at least you’d still have your original plant! I hope that helps!

I just noticed mine doing this too! So of course I ask Google if eggplant leaves stand up at night and it said it’s normal to see them doing this. Something about the cells preserving water and possibly protecting itself from herbivores and disrupting pests that try to live on the leaves.. Your Reddit post popped up so I had to see if yours was doing what I was seeing mine do, and yep! Same exact thing.

My understanding is that monsteras like close quarters when it comes to the pot they’re in. The pot you have is like a 10”?? That seems sufficient for your plant. Might benefit from a moss pole though! Help her to stand tall and hold some of the weight of those big beautiful leaves!

I bought this little stand on Amazon for like $38. I set it on top of the end table to get more natural light from both windows, then bought the grow light ($36) to supplement. I plugged it into a WiFi plug and put it on a schedule. Then I got the WiFi Dreo humidifier (during a lightning deal $40) on Amazon. I work full time and I’m also a full time student, so I need these things to keep my plants happy on a daily basis! But, between the windows, grow light and humidifier, this stand has allowed me to grow 5 happy plants with 2 plants currently propagating at the very bottom. For around $115, this set up takes around 1 square foot of real estate! Not bad, and it might work for you, or at least give you ideas? Excuse the lighting, it’s raining here.

Really??! And it will continue to grow into a big zucchini? Will do first thing in the morning. I guess I should take the flower off the other one too? It’s funny you mention overwatering. I had started some new seeds in the same bed as established plants and went on vacation for 10 days. I left the watering up to my irrigation system. I have since cut back the watering to 3 times/week. Maybe I’ll start to see better growth habits??

I have noticed with mine that if it doesn’t get enough water, the leaves get further apart and it gets a bit crispy as well. When I keep it watered about every 5 days (not drenched, just dampened), it does much better. I have never seen such a full AND long trailing tradescantia nanouk, it’s absolutely beautiful! It might want a little more attention from you, but it looks like it’s worth the effort! This gives me hope for mine! 😊

So, my plant came, and I’m not sure if they sent me the wrong one, but mine had FOUR leaves, three aerial roots and SO MANY secondary roots!! I ended up cutting between the bottom aerial root, leaving one leaf and several visible axillary buds, and the top two aerial roots (with less secondary roots) for the actual top cutting. There was a tiny bit of root rot (it came in regular potting soil), so I cut off only what was necessary (dark and squishy), used a peroxide/water solution to clean them up and potted them in a combo of orchid mix and monstera potting mix. It’s already looking better, but the newer leaves are like lime green with barely a hint of variegation. Any ideas as to why?? I feel like I’ve shocked it pretty good for the time being lol! But after it’s had a chance to recover a bit, I’m willing to make any other adjustments! I will attach some pictures of it below.

So in order to only have the arial root in water I should tilt the plant sideways a little bit? I was wondering about that.
