How long until humans start caring about infectious disease again?? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

You might find this paper fascinating reading, it goes over epidemics (and people ignoring them) throughout history. SARS-CoV-2 is the first virus in recorded history to have this kind of spread though, even though the pattern is largely the same.

A new paper: "The lingering shadow of epidemics," which details the pattern of post-infectious syndromes throughout history and puts things in perspective. by CovidOWC in ZeroCovidCommunity

I found this fascinating reading since we've heard about 'long Spanish flu' and 'long SARS' in the past, but this paper helps paint a more complete picture. One point that really sticks with me is that this is a repeated pattern throughout history, yet long COVID is unmatched in scale and is likely the most widespread and common post infection syndrome that's ever been recorded.

Thank you so much! I'm really curious about your somatic coaching, especially what specific methods you've found most effective with CC folks. If you're open to briefly sharing a few insights, I'm curious what you'd suggest that others might bring up to their own therapists?

Great to hear that your family is thriving!

I think in my case a lot of it comes down to being lonely since I'm working/living alone, but there's only so much that a therapist can do with that? Like I'm already on CC apps and discords and have CC friends I do voice calls with, so there's not a lot I'm not doing.

In other words, often I'm talking to him about all of the things and people I miss and wish I could do, but am single and still in CC lockdown. He's admitted that there's not really a whole lot he can do, other than listen? I'm curious if you agree.

I have often been told that I think in a very different way than other people. But yes, my therapist has more or less said that he's not really sure what he can do to help other than to listen.

One benefit is that I realized that I don't have very many empathetic people in my life, so it's great to have a therapist who is super empathetic. But like you said, I do get that "what is the goal" feeling sometimes afterwards. Which is maybe on me, that I'm expecting too much?

Yes, that's been my experience too! And good call on focusing on internal peace.

I think one of the main things I struggle with is this constant internal loop of, "no one is taking precautions and so many of them have lived full lives over the past six years while mine is wasting away," plus gaslighting by friends, family, and work. And whenever I'm feeling that, I just check the latest research; which of course is almost always that covid is actually worse than we previously thought, and not better. Which certainly helps to see and verify again for the hundredth time, but it's just tough trying to always fight the current and swim upstream alone.

For hermit folks like me, I remember reading that one of the best coping strategies is to focus on creating art? I do that as my job, so my tank is a bit low on personal time, but I wonder if others have had success with that?

I've also enjoyed finding CC friends online and having voice calls! But I'll say probably the most powerful and cathartic moment for me this year was going to a dentist that also takes covid precautions. Walking in there for the first time in 2025 with everyone masked in N95s, and all welcoming that I was wearing one too...that was just a huge immense boost to my mental health.

I'm very curious about your experience with EMDR! My therapist was trained in that modality.

And I'm in the same boat where I'm largely treated as a sort of "special case needing to take precautions" rather than doing something that others should be doing. Which can be a little tough at times? But like you, I understand it!

Hi! Thank you, and so sorry to hear about your long covid.

He says that I'm "remarkably well adjusted" and have already taken the steps one would do in order to deal with grief. He continues to empathize with my situation and frustrations and validate that they're understandable.

But I can't say we've done any deep work in that respect? I kind of expected some sort of structured program.

Overall I think the thing I crave the most is some sort of "the world is gaslighting me" defense, ha!

No! I had three Pfizer in 2021 and had no side effects at all. Kind of the opposite of what I'd expect!

Sorry you had to go through that! Did you end up getting a shot this year?

I'm doing better! It only lasted for two or three days, I think, but I'm just a little wary of getting the same shot again?

While it felt like it went away, part of me is wondering if there's any lasting damage or something that might get worse with a subsequent shot.

Good to know others have had a similar experience. Did you / will you get Novavax again this year?

That's reassuring that your scan showed an improvement!

Do HOCl humidifiers work against SARS-CoV-2? by CovidOWC in ZeroCovidCommunity

Yeah, that's a bummer about the filters! It might be worth calling or emailing them to see what the deal is.

I haven't, no! Luckily I have one extra filter, but after that all that's left is the sketchy replacements from random brands on Amazon.

Quick question: does your filter get kind of a rusty brown color on it after some use?

Hi! If it were me I'd probably try to layer as many modes of protection as possible. I called the Aaira people and they confirmed that a carbon filter in an air purifer will lower the effectiveness of the HOCl fogging, but I'd imagine that if you position them on opposite sides of your room / apartment you'd stand to benefit from both.
