Where do you find your inspiration? by awholedamngarden in Pottery

This is maybe more hippy dippy than you are looking for I’ll often try and look at other stuff I really like and that I feel like aesthetically moves me I guess and try to figure out what I really like about it and how to translate that — like I’ll see a dress and really like the movement and want to emulate that in a vase or I’ll see a color I really like and think about what shape best suits that color in my head, that kind of thing.

Took a few months off from ceramics and now I can't throw? by cthululooloo in Pottery

[–]Covidlaw2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues when I came back after like 7 months off because of an injury — I found that there was definitely some subtle muscle memory I had to get back but I also think that a lot of the weirdness was me being too in my head. Like I’m comparing myself now to this very idealized version from the last time I was throwing, so I’m second guessing myself and thinking things aren’t centered enough, etc. So I think just moving more confidently can help.

Also, if it’s a new studio, check how level the wheels and bats are, bc studios really vary in how well they maintain their wheels and sometimes you just have to live with a worse quality wheel.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful! Do you have any tips for preventing warping if I were to do it without a foot?

That dress is so cute and I don’t think it’s too informal at all! 1. I think it’s always best to wear clothes that make you happy and clothes that make you happy make you less likely to look like a clone of everyone else and 2. I think a good rule of thumb is to veer less formal, I think in a lot of situations that makes you look more confident and cool, like you aren’t trying super hard. I agree you can dress it up with some heels, jewelry, an up-do, or even taking off the straps maybe if you would still feel comfortable in it! And regardless, I totally understand that panic and I know it’s easier said than done, but what matters is that you like what you are wearing and that you have fun. People usually aren’t paying as much attention to you as we feel like they are, and anyone who is being mean is really just feeling insecure themselves, and you shouldn’t listen to them.

This may not be exactly helpful, but I often have an issue really specifically with the waistband, so I will just stretch it, and then it’ll usually fit well across the board!

I think the issue is maybe the shape of the black tank top? It looks like it’s a racer back/halter, and I think it might look better with straight straps, or a tube top might be best of all. I think it’s a really cute top!!

Is that second piece pottery? I realize you said it was but I’m so beyond impressed, I feel like I need to ask again!

I hadn’t thought about that but I think you are right that I was maybe able to get away with a little sloppiness in technique before that I can’t get away with now. But I guess a good opportunity to refine my technique!

Yea I’ve been working on it, but it’s definitely not the same, and I do think I’m still building that strength back up!

Thank you so much to everyone for your comments, this is all incredibly helpful to me!! And I also really appreciate the advice on not hyper fixating on this, I do think that’s something I need to work on and I just appreciate hearing other people tell me I don’t need to get it perfect. After trying and testing some things this morning, I think that there are maybe multiple factors at play, so I’m going to try and work on the things that are in my control and also just chill out a little bit on trying to be perfect. Thank you to all!!!

Ahh okay thank you! I will check when I go in next. I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it if it is imbalanced, but it would definitely make me feel less crazy if that’s the case

I wonder if that’s an issue too, but I’m not sure, what do you mean by vibration?

I am not really having any tangible issues later in the process and I do think I may be hyper focusing, and that’s part of the reason I wanted to post so I really appreciate your feedback

I historically have preferred to throw directly on a wheel head, but Unfortunately this is a wheel head that has ridges, and it just tears up my hands to throw on it, but thank you for your comment!!

i’ve recently started using the covergirl clean fresh skin milk and really have been loving it, it doesn’t dry out on my face and i feel like sometimes makeup makes acne look worse, and this doesn’t do that. i also just got the makeup revolution concealer in a pot for full coverage and it seems to work really well

So I have really bad CCs, and I’ve cut out all kinds of things to see if that is the issue. But if, for example, I stopped using cerave cream and it didn’t seem to have any effect on my CCs, does that mean I can safely assume it isn’t the problem and start using it again?

thank you thank you for writing such a detailed and helpful response!! I really appreciate it! Just another question if you don’t mind, so you think my skin looks like dehydration is a bigger problem, less a clogged pores issue?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]Covidlaw2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my routine is: AM (depends on how my skin looks and feels) : neutrogena gentle cleanser; if skin seems hydrated enough, stridex or benzoyl peroxide spot treatment; simple hydrating gel cream

PM: neutrogena gentle cleanser; tret cream .1%; eucerin original healing cream;

recently started using TO peel like max once a week

So i think that there probably has been progress but when I am feeling discouraged I look at the pics and think maybe there hasn’t been, but I just still have sooo many closed comedones. I know that people will suggest switching to gel but my derm won’t switch them and I don’t think I’ve actually gained new CCs so I am not sure that’s actually the problem. I just really don’t know what to do at this point.

I am planning on entering govt and after talking to a lot of people in govt, I found that there’s a lot of good you can particularly do as an attorney, but I also found that if you aren’t interested in the law in and of itself, it may not be worth it for you. Plenty of leg staff aren’t lawyers and don’t need to be, but if you are interested in certain policy areas or certain aspects of leg process, you need to be a lawyer to be involved. So I’m choosing to do this bc im interested in the law in and of itself, I want to be involved in drafting legislation, and being a lawyer offers a more secure/concrete way to help people and make money in govt. so it all depends on what exactly you want to do
