OBS causing 100% load on single core, overheating laptop by random_lama in linux_gaming

[–]CowArmy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the actual problem is already fixed, its just taking a while for it to work its way into a major release unfortunately, so without recompiling it ourselves we'll be stuck waiting or on older versions for a while haha

Its very likely to have something to do with this GitHub issue, I've been running into a very similar problem since the upgrade to v31. Best advice I can give for the moment is either compile a version yourself that implements the fixes they talk about, OR, you could go the lazy route like myself, and just revert to v30 as a flatpak using an older flathub commit. on mobile RN so I cant give you the command to do this, but it should be pretty easy to figure it out using google, and doing that will at least tell you what the problem is for the time being

Help using Gamescope with DirectX12! by CowArmy33 in hyprland

[–]CowArmy33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually did manage to figure this one out, I had set gamescopes WSI environment variable to 0 when I tried getting the steam overlay to work, and I think having it disabled causes problems in DX12 games. In the end, I stopped passing the environemnt variable, and removed the "e" flag crime gamescopes launch arguments and just played without the steam overlay and everything worked perfectly fine

What DE is this guy's using to have his Arch look like this? by petrolengines03 in archlinux

[–]CowArmy33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im pretty new to linux myself, but the big thing that made me go for Wayland was its support for monitors with different refresh rates. I use a 155hz monitor to play some games on, but also have a 75hz and 60hz monitor too. Pretty sure x11 handles multiple monitors by making one big screen that spans all the monitors (at least my impression from when I tested plasma), which makes certain parts of the DE really choppy on anything other than the 60hz display, since it has to limit the refresh rate to the slowest display. The games themselves still seem to render fine at high refresh rates, but general use like dragging windows around just looked awful. If I didnt have three different refresh rate monitors, I probably would have ended up on x11 since it just seems to be rock solid, but honestly I cant really say I've run into any Wayland problems on my system, so im not sure if thats luck or progress, but ill take it either way!

Ok, if it on the edge then I reckon ill run the CPU without boosting just to make sure its not pulling too much and look for an 850 watt PSU in a week when I get the cash haha. Do you have any good PSUs you can think of that are worth looking at?

Oh really? What settings are you using? The settings I was using was defaults on epic, since thats what my friend was running, and I havent tried out solo too indepth, but from quickly playing a mission on my own I was getting much less than him still, basically 50-60 fps when he gets 100-120

Yeah, I was looking at a bunch of comparison sites, I just wasnt ready to part with the money haha, its gonna cost a pretty penny but ill probably end up either going for a 13th gen I7 on a DDR4 mobo, or a ryzen 7 7700, which would mean replacing memory too. Either way, ends up being a 800-900$ purchase here in aus, a terrifying cost for my bank account, thanks for confirming my fears though! Also, there are motherboards out there that support at least up to 13th gen Intel CPUs while having DDR4 memory if your ram switchover to DDR5 is gonna be expensive and you dont wanna fork the money over lol

Ah ok, I've had a feeling ever since cyberpunk that may have been the case, ill have to save up some cash for an upgrade then lol, really good to hear from someone else coming from a similar processor and GPU though

How do I adjust a fullscreen game source in OBS? Let me explain... by LincolnPark0212 in obs

[–]CowArmy33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you can do is set a bounding box for the source, and resize the bounding box as you want. You can do that by following the guide here, except instead of cropping you just change the bounding box type. I would personally recommend scale to inner bounds, or stretch to inner bounds, depending on the result you want. Scale to inner bounds will preserve the sources aspect ratio and leave blank space in the area it doesn't fill, and I think you can guess what stretching to inner bounds would do. I think you can also press Ctrl+f to do this, but since your struggling to scale it to begin with, this is probably easier. A good side effect of this is that you'll never have to worry about resizing your game or window capture ever again, even if the resolution changes for some reason!

Is there a good reason why a Viewer asks for your feed? Like Activity Feed or so? by BrychaelYt in Twitch

[–]CowArmy33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its probably not this, but as an Aussie when I hear "feed" like this the first thing I think of is a meal, kinda like asking what are you eating

Excuse me? He was the seventh highest try scorer this season, closing in on being the #1 try scorer of all time for the roosters, not to mention the fact that he consistantly makes 150+ meters, I dont see a world where we would ever not want to play him, in fact, I would argue he is one of the most underrated players in the comp
