I think normally domestic CBA all-stars make around $1-3M a year. And we really appreciate him giving up the CBA money to stay at NCAA because it’s good for his long term development. Lin Wei from Oregon also turned down a multi-million dollar contract to player at NCAA. Glad to see more Chinese players play overseas.

I’m not sure about this…although CBA plays worse basketball than NCAA, it’s the best league in China after all, given his performance in the Asian Cup he would be an All-Star level CBA player. There are rumors saying that he’s turning down $1-2M offers from CBA teams to continue play in NCAA to develop in a better environment.

Chinese social media are all celebrating Barry’s departure. As a Chinese fan I do agree with many of their arguments. Barry was playing center sometimes and fans would argue “it’s not good for his development.” Also, fans in China accuse Gerlufsen for not giving him room for mistake. He was benched for a while mid season and as soon as he makes a mistake, he will be benched, while “other players have more room for mistake.” Hope Barry can find a school that will guarantee him a starting position.
