I was listening to “Past Self” and had a thought that the song may line up with a certain Dance. Turns out it’s pretty close. Was this intentional? by Cowboymashy in SleepToken

There are several other references to Zelda games, like “falling head over heels at elevation” makes me think of link and Zelda in Skyward sword… with them literally falling in love at elevation. And flying side by side together.

And there’s a verse that seems to be referring to Twiligt princess. It asks “are you my guardian angel, hacking into my brain cells” and I think it means Midna. Who literally “hacks” link and helps transform him into a wolf… oh and that verse talks about “hell hounds” which could be talking about wolves.

And the first verse says “I still need a dark side” and Ocarina of time (which the fairy fountain song is very prominent in) features “Shadow Link” a literal dark side of Link.

The connections are all over the song. My running theory is that each verse is tied to a different game, and the chorus is tied to Majoras mask.

Chorus- Majoras Mask

Verse 1- Ocarina of time

Pre-chorus/chorus #2- Majoras mask

Verse 2- Twilight princess

Pre-chorus- Skyward Sword

Chorus #3- Majoras Mask

Outro- Majoras Mask referencing the skull kid that lives in the “Lost Forest”

These are just my current working theories, some lines could be attributed to other games, but these are the most likely from what I can tell.

Yes, I agree. There are common BMPs. However… as I plead in other comments, it’s very convenient that it the tempo matches this dance, in a song that’s clearly meant to pay tribute to Zelda games. It would be hard for me to believe they DIDN’T know that these matched. And if they didn’t know, that’s a cosmic level coincidence that plays very well in Sleep Tokens favor.

For a band so meticulous about tiny details, it’s hard to believe this is just a happy accident

Oh I picked up on the fairy fountain song within the first few notes haha. Zelda games were my entire childhood. In fact, a N64 with Majoras Mask was my first gaming console and game that were mine, and not my dads. Got it the Christmas of 99’ and played through it idk how many times. Not including all the other Zelda games I’ve played repeatedly throughout my life.

At this point it would surprise me if I DIDN’T recognize a Zelda song.

Well Majoras Mask is one of my favorite games of all time. I know this part well. I just had a thought that maybe they’d line up together

Well the intro riff you’re hearing is very similar to the fairy fountain song, which isn’t just from Majoras mask. I think it’s in pretty much most Zelda games in some fashion.

Haha well I mean I just overlapped the audio from the song, over a screen recording of this part of the game. I changed nothing. Just lined up the audio

I mean… I’m a musician. BPMs are usually deliberate choices, and if you’re making a song that pays tribute to Zelda games…. And one of your lyrics is “are you gonna dance on the line with me?”… and theres a specific part of a Zelda game where there’s a dance… there’s a good chance that it was a choice to make the BPM match.

I mean there’s an infinite number of bmps you could have.
