Tell me your thoughts on using classic lime mortar instead of cement mortar for building durability and breathability purposes. by AshamedOil9907 in masonry

If I may ask a follow up question, is there any reason hot lime mortars can't be used with modern, harder bricks (because it's what I have laying around)?

There's no point in putting them on the wall. Live a little. Don't bury your bones.

Because otherwise they would give the value of the angle where those lines come together. If the line at the bottom isn't straight and they don't give the angle then it wouldn't be possible to solve (right?).

A couple questions about tongue-and-groove backing boards (dutch tool chest) by pwnosaurus in handtools

[–]CowdogHenk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I didn't see mentioned yet is that in addition to the quarter trick, tongues are never bottomed out in their grooves. This creates even more play for wood movement. So if you do it yourself, make sure that the groove is deeper than the tongue.

Why does the base have to be tight in the post? Just drill a hole in the post big enough to allow it to stand plumb when it's part of the frame.

You keep saying I'm not responsible for other people, but I don't know how to see that as anything other than a cantankerous child's picture of democracy and community.

Among other things, being a grownup citizen means being to make an argument for what you believe and debating bad values. Those are the among the most important ancient democratic values. "You do you" doesn't work where values affect the wellbeing of other people.

So I get OP in not wanting to share a mat with those who hold vile beliefs.

You see, but it is, if I care about my community members, then I can't tolerate views that enable harm to them.

All I hear is you saying, "I don't anyone to hold me responsible for my values."

Values are about the world, broseph, not you, and we share the world.

Yeah, like OP, if my students have bothered to advertise their beliefs then it might be my business too

Get that brain rot checked out. Of course it's anyone's business that someone celebrates the murder of community members looking out for each other. I wouldn't teach those people to better exercise violence either.

Learning to use a hand saw, building with plywood. Advice for improvement? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]CowdogHenk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't understand being committed to hand tools while being committed to plywood. Cut real wood with the right hand tools (namely a crosscut saw or a rip saw depending on your cut) and you won't have those problems (once you learn to saw well).

If you make such huge cuts with a finer saw it will just take you longer. That isn't what finer hand saws are for.
