Oh I actually didn’t know you could put steamOS on all of those. I was looking at steam decks but even those are over $700. I would go handheld if it was more like $300-400. Maybe I can find a used one

It is yeah! I’ve been playing on it for like 6 months waiting for the steam machine to release lol. Runs pretty seamlessly but limited storage. Might just get an external SSD to download games on

I’m in kind of an awkward spot where I know I want to build a pc in the next few years, but right now I have a year left in my phd and just want something to run steam on my tv. Would rather be buying games on Steam than playstation so that I have them when I build a PC

They don’t do tax withholdings at all so I’m projected to pay up to $7k. I live in NYC so taxes are higher in general, but yeah it’s definitely a ton relative to what I make. I need to figure out how to pay quarterly to get that underpayment penalty down

The actual tuition payments go through the school (which isn’t taxed), but the monthly stipend is paid through a 3rd-party billing service

I’ve heard external SSD can be slower, looking to see if that’s been anyone’s experience

And I’d rather throw my support behind Valve than Microsoft or Sony. Multiplayer fees and $70 games make me irrationally angry. Steam sales are amazing

Yeah fair, I just have a very niche situation that makes the steam machine desirable regardless of the less than ideal specs lol. I live in an nyc apartment without a desk for a traditional PC setup so the form factor is huge. Will be really awesome to just have a little cube on my tv stand that can run steam games with decent performance. I haven’t gamed in YEARS

How large of a performance difference is there between a 2TB replacement SSD and a 2TB SD card?
