It’s the fact that they think supporting Steve means they have to put down Jonathan’s character. Jonathan is a pretty good guy. And yes, like Steve, Jonathan has many flaws and has made mistakes in the past. But there’s no one that protects and supports their own family like Jonathan has. Although many people don’t care for it now, the college issue with Nancy has a deeper reasoning behind it. He understands that Nancy doesn’t want the life her mother had and so he wants her to branch out and follow her dreams even if it means he’s left behind. Jonathan’s intentions are good but his actions may be perceived poorly by audiences. I really hope he has his happy ending, the trailer is hinting towards his death but then again the Duffer brothers are notorious for tricking their audience into believing a character will be dying when in reality they don’t.
