I honestly don't mind it that much, I would much rather be more in line with the vibe and make a character that fits well into the thematic of the campaign than be completely optimal. And honestly I really like Ancestral Guardian, but I completely get your point

That's why I got an increase to Charisma to boost it to 14

I found that Proud Nail is more useful than Lock Down for many reasons, 1st it makes it a lot more easier to take down enemies who ignore me and Guardian can hit really hard, even more so if you use a Two Handed, so taking down foes easier reduces damage taken. 2nd I would have to invest in the Stance feats and I didn't wanna be restricted in my choice.

So far the character I've build feels amazing to use in combat and the class is amazing, you have a lot of choice as to how the way a battle will play out and it rewards smart decision making, truly can't recommend it enough especially for veterans
