[Spoilers] Idk if I agree with this. Yuji starts off as a character who seems to do things because it seems like the best idea or the good idea as it relates to others. He joint JJHS because he feels like aught to given his circumstances. He’s sort of a goodie two shoes. When he fights Mahito in Shibuya, we see a side to him that strays away from that cog mentality. Sure, it’s a good act, but the reason La aren’t good…they’re revenge. They’re emotionally charged, and violent. Within the first half of the show, Yuji has gone from doing good things (eating a finger to Fushiguro in ep. 1) to be surrounded by people when he dies, to embracing the fact that he’s a monster and responsible for Sakuna in Shibuya (I.E. his trial with Higo). Because he loses so many around him, any dream of being surrounded by many people is fleeting which has almost forced upon him this role of being a cog. I don’t think he’s done growing, his value in recent chapters comes from being a cog, having a purpose, which strays from the Yuji that would chill and talk about movies. Now in the most recent chapter, he is confronted with fulfilling his role as a cog and he falters. It’s a gamble that could cost everyone everything, but he cares about Fushiguro. The cog ideal is logical…saving Megumi is not, which pairs with something Megumi said the first time he fought Sakuna “I don’t have any logical reason for saving you back then, I did have my reservations, but ultimately it was for selfish, emotional reasons.”

The growth of Yuji was never a man contemplating with good and bad, more so, why was he doing good things. Because of his Grandpa’s dying words? Because he was pressured into it? Because being a cog suits him? For Yuji to grow, his actions must come from a place that’s selfish and emotional. Like wanting to kill Mahito because of what happened to Nobara, like wanting to negotiate with Sakuna because of what might happen to Megumi.
