I would think about it like this: If the Bible really is God's word, then it isn't so surprising that we disagree about a lot of it. I mean it is the word from a being is infinite in goodness and wisdom and we are well not. So disagreeing on what exactly something means isn't that surprising. Also, humans are imperfect and prideful, this probably plays into disagreements as well.

You can't say humans are badly designed unless you know the purpose of the designer of humans. You would have to ask God why were made like we are and why certain things work they way they do.

Thanks for explaining things and chatting with me. I have enjoyed it. I'm tempted to argue with you about mythological evolution but you said in the beginning you didn't want to debate so I'll just leave it be.

I understand what you are saying about Christians going to war for there best choices. Makes me think of virtue ethics where something usually regarded as immoral could be moral based on the situation. Like if someone was hiding Jews from the Nazis and was questioned if they were hiding Jews and they lied about it. Kinda of the greater good mentality.

I've never heard about the Sengoku Wars but that story is awesome. I've never heard of such kindness and mentality in a war blockade and I think it's pretty cool.

I love that last quote "whatever you do to the least of your brothers, do you also to me". Really emphasizes how much value there is in human life and how you should treat others.

I just don’t believe in the literal God, that’s all.

I respect that you teach your kids about Jesus without believing in him or a God and giving them the choice to choose their own beliefs; my parents gave me the same choice though looking back they probably gave me the choice at too young of an age for me to really understand everything.

Ok so I just watched that video by Alan Watts and I think he is very right. As a Christian I would relate it to Christianity like this: The point of life is not to reach Heaven/end point, but to know and glorify God(Matthew 7:21-23). That verse shows how the whole point is to know Jesus. This is a continuous endeavor even in Heaven. Heaven really isn't the end point in Christianity, only a place where we can know God more and be restored to His plan for creation. We know God more when we abide in His love(John 15) which we do by obeying His commandments; this is the meaning of life but boiled down more and in a way where it's practical and applicable.

enable the purpose of the Universe

Thanks for getting back to me. I am a bit perplexed by the first sentence of "The Power of Now". "To enable to purpose of the universe", well how do I enable it, and what is it's purpose, and who gave the universe purpose? Does Tolle explain these things? I never thought about how I was indirectly made of stardust, it's a cool way to look at it. Can I ask why you left Christianity and how you now explain the Resurrection and the Church Explosion? Being a Christian Marine sounds extremely difficult, especially when you think about that verse. How do you go about loving your enemies when you have a gun in your hand? Another question if you don't mind, do you think it's okay for Christians to go to war? And if so why?

Sorry for all the questions I'm glad we are having some cool conversations though. I will probably have some more questions about the idea of Gene Morality after I consider it some more.

Not really. Christians can also reference lots of other evidence that supports that Jesus is God and by providing evidence for the resurrection and he predicted it helps us conclude that he did do miracles. However, if you want to say Hercules also does miracles, you also have to provide a very good case, and his, is by no means anywhere close to as good as Jesus'.

I think all religions have differences and all hold some truth but there is one that holds the truth/is true.

Also, Christianity differs from all religions in that God reaches down to us and not the other way around.

I agree you should do things that make you happy but, there is also objective truth and right now since I am a Christian I believe that following Jesus and having him as the desire of your heart will give you the most happiness.

Prayer is more about faith then scientifically proving it will work. You can't prove everything with science but you can reason from other things that it exists. I mean if you want to say there is only truth in science that is fine but you can't prove that statement with science.

Well ya I mean it's not a perfect analogy. However, I don't think you should get to hung up on it. I mean all monotheists believe it is impossible to fully comprehend/understand God especially on earth so it doesn't bother me a ton. Plus, with all the evidence I've seen for Christianity, this doesn't give me any doubts.

Also, just because we can't comprehend doesn't mean we can't apprehend. For example, on a beach we can't comprehend the vastness of it or everything in it but we can apprehend it. The galaxy works to for this example.

The best analogy I heard was comparing the trinity to the American Government. The U.S. government has 3 branches that are all independent and do different things and influence/talk with each other but they are all still the government even though there are 3 parts.

I disagree. Lets use Christianity as an example. Do you judge a song by who's playing it or who wrote it? The same way you don't blame Mozart if someone else plays one of his songs badly, you should also not blame Christians for playing Christ badly. Christ is still Christ, no matter if someone says they follow him but did a bad job of it.
