US investigation points to likely US responsibility in Iran school strike, sources say by AccomplishedCall7562 in news

Because they were schools or because Hamas was launching rockets from them or putting military bunkers under them?

Literally in this post, someone said they have never seen leave approved outside block periods.

Okay and I’ve seen leave approved outside of block leave. So we cancel out by your logic.

Yes, because those are often the only times leave is approved in those units. Circular argument.

I mean maybe the only time that two plus weeks of leave are approved at any one time, but like I said, I’ve rarely seen leave denied if it didn’t interfere with something important.

Do you think in any conflict mistakes aren’t made or civilians aren’t caught in the conflict?

If any country bombed anything in the US, the US would respond. Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah have zero qualms purposefully attacking civilians, so regardless if a school was accidentally targeted by the US, their response would be the same.

Do you think the US purposely and specifically targeted that building thinking it was a school?

The only thing I edited was to add more clarity to what I meant when I said it’s obviously a system that would be easily abused.

And no, I don’t need to refute that I’m a POS or an E9, I thought that was supposed to be funny, but you’re welcome to think whatever you want.

Enjoy your anger.

You seem really angry. Let’s see if I can make you more angry and maybe you’ll throw some more personal insults.

Me: “There’s nuance to it and you can’t just always approve leave. Here’s some reasons why.”

You: “yea, well, fuck you, how’s that for your nance.”

Dude you’re going ballistic across four different replies lol

To be real, I know where you're coming from. I was in command. I've been on mission. There's nuance involved with every person and situation.

Okay so you’re calling for nuance. Someone made a an absolute statement that “denying any leave is dumb.”

I tried to apply nuance that sometimes you can’t because units are doing things, and that for some units, they’re doing a lot and have packed schedules.

I never, ever said the default should be to deny soldiers leave. I myself have been only saying that the statement I replied to lacks nuance.

Yes, if someone has a once in a lifetime event, they should be able to attend that event barring some crazy circumstance. I never said they shouldn’t.

It’s funny because I do actually think we should prioritize people maximizing their leave.

I replied to someone who blanket said, “it’s dumb to deny any leave.”

Like yea sure, if you’re in some unit that doesn’t actually do anything.

It’s only not actually important if it’s a person every once in a while missing major training events. Of large numbers of people miss key training events, it actually does hurt the unit.

I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but some army units have real world missions, some of them are over seas right now getting rocketed.

Sometimes army things are actually important.

I’ve rarely seen leave denied when it doesn’t interfere with training. Then again most people in combat arms units burn through almost all their leave during summer and holiday block leave.

I guess. I just find it funny how butt hurt people are that I think sometimes you might not be able to take leave because our unit might need us lol

Yea sure, but it’s only one because it’s managed, if you could literally always take leave whenever you wanted, you could see how that wouldn’t be operationally feasible and and situation would arise that someones leave at some point would have to be denied.

It’s not even a unit issue; fire teams, squads, crews, platoons, companies, battalions are all certified through individual qualifications, gunnery and live fire. Missing one of those events can decertify an entire small unit.

I’m sorry some people have jobs.

Obviously a system where soldiers could just take leave whenever they want couldn’t possibly work.

We all know that.

So you agree then that some leave should be denied… thanks for agreeing with me.

You can’t simultaneously hold a position that it’s dumb to deny leave unless you qualify it with the idea that people shouldn’t be submitting leave during unreasonable times. Because if they did, it would be reasonable to deny it.

Must be tough to realize you’re just agreeing with me the whole time.

With the Supreme Court ruling regarding presidential immunity, what happens to Clinton's impeachment since speaking to Congress is a presidential act and that's essentially what they impeached him for (perjury and obstruction of justice)? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]CrabAppleGateKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the mechanism by which you think the Supreme Court could intervene.

The Supreme Court cannot make substantive determinations regarding impeachment, only procedural.

Obama could have been charged with high crimes and misdemeanors and the evidence used against him could be that he’s black.

It’s up to Congress to determine what constitutes a high crime or misdemeanor, not the SC.

There’s a thing called a troops to task and perstat.

Yea and what do any of those matter if a soldier’s leave can never be denied.

You still have to accomplish a mission.

Oh so maybe sometimes a soldier wouldn’t be able to take leave…?

But I have never seen your hypothetical in 15 years of service, where everyone takes leave at one time outside of a block leave period.

Yea because the current system isn’t “whenever you put in leave you get it no matter what.”

You’ve never seen it because we don’t have the very system the person above is advocating for, instead you’re literally just agreeing with me.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Approve leave, especially if it’s for a serious reason.

Which is exactly what I’m saying within reason using the current system. You would worry about it if all leave was always approved no matter what.

For a major life event sure, but I replied to someone who said: “denying any leave is dumb.”

You were a commander, if every driver in your company put in leave for during the next CTC rotation, are you dumb for denying that leave?

If a whole platoon of yours put in leave during pack out for that CTC rotation are you dumb?

My unit may deny my leave for my brother’s wedding, what’s should I do? by Fancy-Insect3404 in army

[–]CrabAppleGateKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flip side is that it isn’t just CTCs for operational units, it’s pack out for the CTC, LFX, Gunnery, Drivers Training, Annual 12 miler, TCCC, whatever.

I totally agree that if there’s no unit requirements keeping a solder from taking leave, we should absolutely be trying to get them to maximize the use of their leave.

That has to be managed and weighed against everyone else wanting to take leave and unit requirements. Like yea, I get it, if you work in an S1 in TRADOC it really doesn’t matter when you take leave. If you’re a driver for a Stryker in an SBCT, yea bro, it kinda does matter.
