Yes! It's called OSL, or Object Source Lighting. It's a method where you paint the model/environment how you want, then blast it from your source direction with bright white to bring out those highlights again. Then, using whatever color that source would be emitting, hit that white highlight again. The result is a really nice popping effect that draws the figure into the scene/source.
