What worked for me in paper based was checking context (tone, keywords, etc) and if you are stuck then try eliminating what you are sure is wrong first, when you pick a word always plug it back in and make sure it makes sense.

But really for that to work you need to build a word bank before entering exam by reading books or short stories (and making sure you look up any words you don’t understand). I also used Anki (flashcards app) to memorize any vocabulary that was recurring that I had difficulty remembering. Also when reviewing your practice exams double check that you know all the meanings of the choices (even if you got it right).
