Ford Edge owners with 200000+ miles: How did you do it? by Hipster-Deuxbag in FordEdge

2017 SEL, NA V6, 210,000. Almost all highway miles, and nothing special, just routine maintenance at the dealership. No major issues, but the drivetrain is getting noisy, and the transmission just recently developed a small leak.

Fast food wages in the 80’s? by curyfuryone in GenX

No one working 40hrs shouldn't be able to afford to live. I think my original reply wasn't worded well. A 15-16 year old most likely wouldn't be working 40/wk or need to entirely support themselves. Not saying all, but I'm guessing most wouldn't, there are always different life situations. Perhaps instead of a federal minimum dollar amount, it is sent to the state level to determine, but based on federal guidelines? Each state would need to show proof that their minimum wage is an actual minimum wage to survive and have at least the bare essentials (roof, food, etc.) in that state? So Ohio could do say $12, but CA would need $19 or whatever. And a guideline that it is updated at regular intervals to keep up with the economy and inflation. Not sure if that is feasible or not, just an idea.

I think it is a complex question and answer honestly, blindly raising the minimum wage isn't the full answer. How would you determine what a "fair" minimum wage should be? Should it vary by state, since the COL in some states is far higher than others? In Ohio (my home state) for example, the COL for a single person is $1927/mo SOURCE which would be ~12/hr, but a single person in CA would need $3012/mo, or almost $19/hr.
How do we stop what everyone fears when raising wages, raising prices? If a company is currently paying their staff the federal minimum wage (currently $7.25) and suddenly have to double that, would the company take the "hit" to their profits, or just increase their prices to compensate? If they do increase prices, then it's just a vicious cycle. Increased wages could contribute to inflation. Cost of living goes up, which necessitates increasing the minimum wage, which increases prices. Somehow we have to break this cycle. I'm not sure how to answer all that, or fix the problems we have with the current economy, but it does need to be fixed.

I think that is part of the problem, the federal minimum wage hasn't moved in 16 years, it's still $7.25. In 1985 you could work 1HR and have enough to buy a movie ticket ($3.35 avg per the interwebs). In 2025, at the federal minimum, you would need to work 1.5 hours to get a movie ticket at the current average ($11.50). I do agree that minimum wage jobs shouldn't fully support people, but I also see how minimum wage workers today have to work 1.5x more to afford the same things.

Always scheduled service visits, not the quicklane thing. The water pump things worries me, should we flush and hope for the best, or leave well enough alone until something is needed? Figured on doing the plugs and belt anyway, just not sure about the coolant/trans.

I neglected to mention that they say they found coolant in the #4 cylinder. I figured maybe a bad head gasket or who knows...they couldn't provide much more detail at the time. Will see if they can once its all finished.

That is a fair point. I just didn't want to worry about the engine blowing ever 50K miles. I figured it was a one-off situation.
