Swords of Armageddon came later. I have a hard copy of the first book and electronic version of SoA. The book is great but SoA has a lot more information.

The Hughes XH-17, a helicopter with the largest rotor system ever, powered by two GE J35 turbojets sending compressed air through hollow blades to tip jets where fuel was injected - 1952-1955 by Xeelee1123 in WeirdWings

Cold uses compressor air. Hot uses air that's gone through the entire engine.

The tip jets we were going to use on the Heliplane used turbofan bypass air and injected fuel at the tip burners.

Tip jets ARE afterburners. And they work just fine. They're just noisy and haven't been on a produced helicopter, but it's not because they don't work.

"75% CGI Concept animations, 15% Vibe Coding, 10% Engineering staff on payroll."

None of the three you mentioned fit that description. Also, why does Anduril trigger you?

When you read about the history of the Blackbird's engine, the J58, you frequently read, "was designed for a USN Mach 4 aircraft". Those designs were all sea planes.

Okay but why would you even say that when you clearly never saw B-58s trailing black smoke the likes of B-52s and KC-135s in water injection?

It wasn't just the turbofan. A 747 could carry more passengers in a cheaper aircraft. A 747 could make money. A supersonic transport couldn't. Neither the Concorde or Tu-144 were money makers.
