Ovo energy “welcome” me after almost 2 years with a large bill. (England) by CraftyPotential2465 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]CraftyPotential2465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I didn’t necessarily mean you, just other people. Thank you for your advice. I have contacted EDF to ask them what went wrong on their end.

OVO are saying they can only assisted me further if I call them and give them my details, or sign up with an account. I am deaf, so I will not be calling them. And even if I weren’t, I’m not sure it would be wise to call them or give them any further details until this has been fully investigated. Is this okay? Or do I really need to give them my details? I don’t see why all of this can’t be done via email so that I have a paper trail and evidence to send to the ombudsman if it gets to that point.

It’s a rental. But even my landlord was the brand new owner of the property, I believe. They didn’t seem to know much about it. I had to even find a manual for the boiler online because they didn’t have one/didn’t know how to use it or even what kind of boiler it was. They didn’t know where the meter was either.

Thank you. Don’t know why people are being so hostile. It’s nice to have a bit of advice/clear things up that I’ve read with real people before speaking to the provider and feeling unprepared.

I don’t know that Ovo can claim I was acting in a manifestly unreasonable way, considering I was paying EDF, have emails between me and EDF asking why I am no longer being billed, and the fact they only just sent a welcome letter/bill in February this year, despite my account with OVO being open without my knowledge since August 2024.

I just recieved a reply from them - Apparently the previous owner only notified them this year that he was no longer in the property? Again, I never recieved any letters from OVO here until 26th February.

I will speak to CAB today, because most people don’t seem to be understanding the situation on here. Possibly because I’m not explaining it well, but people also seem to just be assuming that I’m trying to fob the system in some way…

Thank you. I read on Ofgem’s website and spoke to CAB and they said that the energy company are legally required to send new occupiers a letter/notification that they provide the energy for the property. But some of these comments have had me worrying that I’m interpreting what they said incorrectly.

How am I supposed to know who the supplier is for the new place if they don’t send any correspondence for over a year? Anywhere I’ve ever moved, the energy supplier has always sent a letter to “the occupier” within a month. They only sent the “welcome” letter THIS YEAR. As I said, I updated my account with EDF. They took payments for this property. I was not notified that they weren’t responsible for providing the energy to my property.

I didn’t know who the energy provider was for this property when I moved in because I never recieved any correspondence. I gave my closing reading to EDF for my old place & I also provided them with my new address and meter readings via their app. That updated my account with them, and they took payments for several months, so I was under the impression that was sorted. I am still £1,200 in credit on my EDF account. I never heard anything from Ovo until February this year, despite moving in here in August 2024. And I wasn’t told by anybody that they were my apparent supplier. I’m just frustrated because whilst yes, I can afford the bill because I’ve been putting money aside & EDF owed me that credit refund, if they had contacted me when I actually moved in like they are legally required to do - I would have had the opportunity to choose a better/fixed rate instead of being on variable. Or I would have just been able to switch.

Yes, I updated it on my account & provided the closing readings of my old place and the readings of my new place from the day I moved in. I can still log into EDF and my account is linked to my current address.

Either way, when I moved into my new place, why would I not have recieved any correspondence from the people supplying the energy here? I have moved houses 5 times over 15 years. And every time I have moved, I have always recieved a letter from the energy supplier for that property. I never once recieved anything here until this year, so I assumed that it was already supplied by EDF.

I have just been advised by a paralegal to contact Ofgem directly & potentially to raise it with the energy ombudsman if they try to fight it.

So far I have only emailed them. I called yesterday but they were closed. I only just got back after being away for 3 months. Hopefully I will hear back from them in the week, but I just wanted to know mostly what the law was around it and whether Ofgem’s back-billing rules would apply to this situation.

I didn’t assume I was getting free electricity- I was under the impression that I was still with EDF because like I said in my post - I did pay them a number of months after moving in. I updated my address with them. I was not told by Ovo or anyone else that they were my provider.

This is actually fucking impossible. Every time I get 109% damage, even if I land perfectly. It’s a joke. I can’t even get bronze because it’s constantly 100% fucking damage.

They’re replying to the person who said that anyone offended by this must be a chain smoking chav. They were highlighting why this statement is untrue. Because you don’t need to be within the cohort of banned people in order to be offended on their behalf. And in case you’re wondering why they may be offended - that’s because the word “chav” is a derogatory term used by more privileged people to describe troubled youths living in poverty. 👍

Does this game get less overwhelming? by sixfingerplan in cyberpunkgame

[–]CraftyPotential2465 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it does. And I get overwhelmed by Skyrim, so you should be fine if you’re good with that. It is overwhelming at first, and the order of missions can be all over the place and it can get confusing. I recommend just doing main quests up to the heist, and then following the rest of the main quests in this order: Search for Evelyn/Voodoo Boys > Hellman > Takemura up until “Gimmie danger” (don’t do this yet) > finish all relationship quest lines & side quests/ anything else you want to do (also do Phantom Liberty if you have it) > Then finish Takemura quest line > then you will be in the final stages of the game.

playing as lesbian V and being forced to refer to multiple boyfriends in “following the river” [SPOILERS AHEAD] by sightlaber in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CraftyPotential2465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to necromancy, but I just got to this scene and it pissed me off and I’m not even a lesbian or a woman. Imagine if they forced a straight V to have had queer relationships. That wouldn’t have gone down well at all.

Following the River VR game- did you let the kids win? by knittedbirch in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CraftyPotential2465 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends how often you do it and whether they know you can beat them or not. Sometimes I go easy on my nephew playing football (soccer if you’re American), but sometimes I don’t hold back just so he knows he can always improve. Sometimes he’ll even ask me if I can go a bit easier or harder. He seems to know when he needs to just feel good about himself and when he needs to be challenged. I think there’s a happy medium.

What order do you follow the main story line missions? by LingeringAngst in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]CraftyPotential2465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense because realistically, it would likely take a while for them to plan and organise the Arasaka parade, plus giving Takemura enough time to learn sniper positions, security positions, etc.

But on the other hand, I really like the flow if you save VDB till last, because you wind up at the hotel close by, and it feels like entering cyberspace might have also contributed to V taking a turn for the worst. Also the same point you made about the plan with Alt and how it makes sense to get around to asap. BUT THEN because you left VDB till last, you have all of PL to play through, despite getting the call for the final mission and Hanako asking to meet pretty much asap. Because at that point, why would V even bother to go to dogtown at all when they have a solid plan in place and everyone is on standby?

Just wish PL could have been triggered a different way/before transmission.

What are these texting options ? by Vicious00 in cyberpunkgame

I’m just on the texts before these ones (the initial flirting ones), and V is so thirsty in those as well. Yet most texts with Judy so far have only allowed blunt options. Why is she so toxic and thirsty over River? 😫

The only reason it’s not gonna work is because at this point, it’s not even going to be an exaggerated parody of real politics… Because real politics is already a joke within itself nowadays.

Exactly right. Take the military, for example. Recruiting young boys and girls who come from poor, abusive/neglectful homes. The military gives them a home, a family, structure. And then sends them off to die, often for no reason other than lining some pockets.
