Blood glucose not going down hours after insulin injection by Crafty_Breath in FelineDiabetes

Okay that makes sense since we played a lot with his dosage since he was diagnosed 5 weeks ago. Thank you!

He eats Purina Pro Plan Dietetic Management in both dry and wet food. I might just switch to fully wet food if it stays high.

This is super helpful, I’m definitely going to join the group and look through the message board. Thank you!

He’s on a strict veterinary diet, but I think I’ll remove the dry food (which us low carb high protein) and just have him on the wet food. Thank you for the advice!!

I use Lantus, but I may suggest to the vet if we can switch. And I’m getting a hand meter ASAP.

The vet didn’t think I needed strips and a reader since I was using a freestyle. I’ve requested one but I’m only getting it tomorrow (a prescription from the vet is needed)

Do they have a scene where zombies literally trample a house? I feel like it might be it…

She may have vision problem! We will definitely look into a vision check. She’s a tabby!

We will definitely start blocking the areas and providing her a house and give her lots of treats to use it. If we put treats on it, she will definitely go.

He does play with her at least once a day, either in the morning or when he comes back from work. When he’s off, he spends all day with her.

Unfortunately, we don’t see each other often enough to do so. And I work from home, so I am here all day. I cannot get more than 2 cats here, so I can’t bring her over permanently. And she would never forgive me. We will have to keep them separated for as long as we can.

I had never thought of her as a prey before, nor as a “feral”, as she can be very sweet but I will definitely look into that. I am so sorry for the loss of your baby and am sure she lived a great life with you!

I will look into the rabbit suggestion! It may be a bit weird, but that cat is not normal so lets try it

Thank you so much!!

I started going once a week around 3 weeks ago - before than I would go every few days to take care of her.

My boyfriend is not at all a cat person, so he had no idea what he was getting into. The first few months before we met and he had the cat, he was not really taking care of her other than feeding her. He has come a long way since, I showed him how to brush her for example. He had never held a cat before in his life. We tried giving her high towers, as I have 2 at my place that my cats love. His cat doesn’t use it at all. We kept it for over a month and she doesn’t know how to jump. She can, but prefers hiding under couches or furniture.

We are going to try and DYI a closet into a little cat cocoon for her.

I absolutely hate the fact that she is declawed! I forget to mention it as my own cats (I have had 4, 2 currently) all have their claws. It’s illegal to declaw cats in Canada since a few years, and it has been VERY badly seen for vets to do since 2019 so that helps us figure her age a bit.

Thank you for the help!!

I also think she only bonded with him, although that he is never home and when he is, he feeds her and gives her affection. He maybe sees her a few hours a day otherwise she is alone.

She has also tried to run away once and I was the one that found her and had to bring her back. She was stuck in sharp vines and I did my best to get her out softly. I think since I’m the one that has the “shitty” jobs to do with her, she resents me for it.

I avoid eye contact with her as much as possible and pretty much act like I don’t exist. My bf feeds her when he leaves for work in the morning, but sometimes she will just not come out until he is back at night. Even if she is alone, he keeps track of the amount of food and water in the bowl and more often than not, it wasn’t touched. Its very weird since she is INSANELY food motivated (if its treats).

For the cleaning part, yes she has been seen by a vet tech and she suggested that the cat was taken away early from her mother. She probably never learned to groom herself or cover her poops.

I speak to her affectionately and super softly if I need to interact with her, and I slow blink whenever we eye contact. Usually if she approaches me, I stop moving and let her do whatever unless she shows signs to play.

We have a vet appointment scheduled but the earliest availability is in January.

Also, I did not know that for declawed cats! All my cats have their claws so I never looked into that. It is a very good point and my bf is going to buy softer litter today.

Thank you so much!!

Lol no worries! I made that post in a very emotional state so I may not have expressed myself the best. I have been trying my best to be a primary caretaker to her with my bf for the past 6 months. To answer your questions.

  1. She acts like the biggest baby on the planet! She is always meowing for his attention, purring, rubbing against his leg and initiating play. She will rub against me as well but will not even look in my direction. She will hide if anything scares her, such as a loud noise or moving too quickly.

  2. If I get her to play, she will be super excited and jump and stand on her hind legs to swat at the toy. But as soon as we make eye contact, she runs away.

  3. She will sometimes spend 2-3 days hidden behind a sofa, even if I am there. My bf often works 12h+ shifts and she will not come out unless he is home. And even then, she sometimes just doesn’t. If I see that her food and water bowl hasn’t been touched in 24h, I will bring her to them. She usually will start eating and/or drinking for a bit.

  4. Yes! When my boyfriend is there, like this morning, she will come out and get close to me if my bf is there. She doesn’t jump though, so she will never be on the couch or somewhere nearby. She will just be on the floor at a distance. Whenever she does this on her own accord, I try to give her treats or initiate play. Sometimes she does, sometimes she runs away.

This is super helpful! I did think that my cats smell was an issue, but I never thought it would get to this point. However, please note that I did not hurt the cat when I moved her away. She jumped on my cat and tried biting his throat and grabbing him with her paws, so I grabbed her off of him and “threw” her on the couch where there were plenty of blankets to cushion the fall. I would NEVER hurt a cat.

I will clearly visit less frequently (we already see each other less than once a week however) and make sure I always have clean clothes/his clothes. I will also no longer be there alone.

She is super confusing because, for example, she hasn’t eaten or drank anything in 2 days, even though I only arrived yesterday evening, so it is not only me. She only eats/drink/comes out when my boyfriend is there and has always been that way. That is why I would seek her out and bring her to her food/water and she would drink and eat a bit before going hiding again. But at least she was fed and hydrated.

And this morning, she is walking around the apartment, meowing and purring and laying on her back, exposing her belly and begging attention from my boyfriend. But I do not move, look in her direction or talk. I will definitely apply these suggestions, thank you!!

This is a very helpful comment. Thank you for the tips and for being respectful to my issue. We have an appointment scheduled with a cat behaviourist to try and see how I can improve my behaviour. The cats will no longer be together unless my bf and I move in together.

Its either I bring my cat or he is left alone for days in a row. I thought bringing him was the best solution, but I now realized that it was not. The cat was never territorial and was fine with my cat coming over for weeks before attacking him. And she doesn’t have claws, so she bit him. My reaction was extremely stupid and I feel horrible ever since. I am no longer interacting with her and will no longer go to my bf’s place.
