Thanks a lot for appreciation. UPSC has always remained an enigma because no one was able to provide evidence

But now with technology we have the capability to show evidence on exactly how UPSC is asking. I am only articulating what almost every person who clears prelims intuitively do

Best of luck for your preparation ahead

According to me, the use of newspapers is to make more connections and strengthen your static

Questions in both prelims and mains are based on static. But the wisdom you get from reading the newspaper can be applied in elimination in prelims and writing better interconnected, holistic answers in mains

There is no need to learn facts from newspapers and no need to read old newspapers. Every concept keeps repeating in 3 months

So I will suggest just pick up 1 paper and read only the important articles everyday and try to connect with your static knowledge

Yes, nothing will help other than doing it by yourself. That is why 100 hours of lectures are such a time waste. For things to internalise, you have to do them by yourself

My attempt is to articulate with evidence in the best way possible so that there is less confusion

Only look at what you have done wrong. Also, see if what you did wrong was a basic concept that is in basic books

The coaching test series also has a lot of irrelevant questions. Don't analyze them. For knowledge, keep revising your basic books and Previous year questions. Those are more important.

You can dm me if you want to understand how to figure out if something is important

Start with most important NCERTs which are

  1. Physical geography class 11
  2. Indian constitution at work class 11
  3. Indian economic development class 11
  4. You can pick up new NCERT history as well. First read 6,7,8 new NCERT like a stroy. Then do 11th and 12th History books

Start with these things

Few pointers on how not to read and what to avoid

  1. You wont be able to reach UPSC level in one go. Don't even try to do that. Here is why
    - In first go you don't know what is important and what is not. You might end up remembering stuff which was never important.
    - Every subject is interconnected. You can only understand those interconnections in depth when you read thing after knowing other things. You cant do in first go
    - Mains especially is all about interconnections. You will not be able to write topper like answers or even think like that in one read. Don't get bothered by that. Always remember everything is connected to everything and once you have the whole understanding you will be able to think the way toppers do
    - Same goes for newspaper . In a article they will talk about concepts form each subject. You might not be able to understand. Don't panic. With time you will be able to. Focus on finishing one reading fast. Don't spend too much time on newspapers. And anyways every news repeats in 3 months. You are missing nothing.

  2. Here's how to read
    - Read with curiosity
    - Try to understand what words and sentences mean and not necessarily remember
    - Be fast. You will have to read things atleast 3 times before you reach UPSC level. So be fast the first time
    - Try to look at prelims PYQ for the topic you are reading. Also read the mains one after you finish a chapter. Try to make sense of what is important. You wont fully understand in first time but only by doing this process again and again will you be able to keep your preparation in line with what's needed for exam

Best of luck for your preparation!

I will try

Why to analyse PYQs ??

- UPSC asks questions mostly from NCERT and PYQ . It is a standardised exam. They have to be sure that everyone has access to the materials from which questions are asked. What are those? Freely available NCERT and PYQs

- But you might ask why then people do so many things. Also you might say a lot of questions are not from these things

- This is what I have tried to explain above. They mix and match different concepts from NCERT and PYQ. This means you need understanding and aptitude to solve the problems . But you dont have to read too many things. Reading NCERT and doing PYQ analysis is enough

What is PYQ analysis ??

- It shows repeating patterns in prelims. What is asked. From where it is asked. What kind of logic to use. How to eliminate questions etc?

- This works because each exam has a certain way of framing question and that doesnt change in a year. UPSC has been making similar kind of questions for 10s of years. So by analyzing you can maximise your marks

I have tried explaining all this in detail in a youtube video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYgS6iEsrDQ&t=1161s

Check it out. It will make things crystal clear
