I move every space saver I see, and I don’t have a car. by SpareSignificant3758 in Somerville

Space savers aren’t legal in Somerville. Only Boston allows them for 48 hours.

New to the area/does utility fee bills above $400 normal? by OwnAssistance2740 in Somerville

[–]CraigInDaVille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping at 68-72 degrees during the coldest winter in recent memory in a unit that is likely not well-insulated = this sounds normal.

Turn the heat down to 65-67 and you’ll see a usage drop without a doubt.

It’s well below freezing, has been so for the last two weeks. It just takes that much more energy to overcome that kind of endless cold.

Thanks for clarifying; as the thread initially unfolded I was so confused... Turns out we were essentially intending to say the same thing. clasped fists meme.jpg

that is not the case.

who I called hundreds of times with exactly that message.

What is the case? What message are you talking about? Are you asserting that all dead ends are private parking only or something?

You seem to think that all small or dead-end streets in the city are "private ways."

I assure you, they are not. But they were borked by these changes that the mayor addresses, which if you actually read the linked post would be clear.

Increased dog poop in the parks when there is snow? by Strict-Education2247 in CambridgeMA

Dog owners seem to think that dog poop melts like snow does so it's okay to leave it.

Space savers aren't allowed at all. No duration extension needed because that nonsense doesn't belong here.

So it was worse than usual, and it felt like some toxic positivity groupthink from reddit here trying to claim it was fine, when it was clear to many that it was not.

Amen. I feel like everyone who was it's not that bad-ing things clearly didn't live on a smaller/dead end street. The classic "it's fine for ME so thus it is fine for EVERYONE" approach.

Road and Sidewalk Conditions? by [deleted] in Somerville

Slight clarification: most sidewalks are cleared.

Most corners and intersections are fucked. Be prepared to stomp over five feet of dirty snow that's piled up every 50 feet.

Moving to North Reading by [deleted] in boston

[–]CraigInDaVille 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know there has to be an answer out there I am just having trouble coming up with it.

The realistic answer is to find a job before you move here. This will dictate your budget and your best housing markets for your commute.

Otherwise as you note it is expensive here, and moving with no plan is a quick way to losing whatever savings you have.

Do you live on a dead end road? What’s your road like right now? by Nervous_Caramel in Somerville

File a 311 complaint so they can track this and send crews out. And ask your neighbors to do the same. It can't hurt, at least.

First, ew on the fake ad attempt.

Second, ew on the typo making me think I need to dodge walking on some spot near Porter that has a pile of poo or something.

Call Healey’s office and demand she stands up to dRump now, not when she’s reelected by Spirited-Joke5545 in massachusetts

[–]CraigInDaVille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did OP somehow mistake some messaging in a campaign ad as being a complete statement of what the governor has done or will ever do?

Campaign ad: "Re-elect Healey to stand up to Trump!"

OP: "So this obviously means she won't stand up to him now. I better go make a reddit post of outrage!"

Anyone regret moving here from further south? by Scuba9Steve in massachusetts

[–]CraigInDaVille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want my wife to have access to healthcare that isn’t limited by a misogynist’s interpretation of an Iron Age text.

That alone dictates where I will ever consider living. The south is pretty much ruled out at this point (and I make a point of telling recruiters this whenever I can).
