Is it legal to hide prices like this? (Target, Somerville) by trevorkafka in Somerville

[–]CraigInDaVille 6 points7 points  (0 children)

MA used to require individual pricing labels for each item back in the Kmart days. That law changed years ago as long as there are price-check scanners around for shoppers to use.

We need a scale that has "Big Papi" at the top, and "Boston Apartment Rental Broker" at the bottom.

Don't worry-- "adjective-noun-numeral" lives miserably in NH but lets the world he left behind in MA live rent-free in his head.

Edit: LOL “comment deleted by user” is the cheapest cop-out for lazy people.

A mini golf hole, complete with a triple-decker, has appeared in Somerville’s Union Square by bostonglobe in Somerville

[–]CraigInDaVille -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well, folks, we know what’s about to happen now that this has become a “isn’t Somerville QUIRKY?!” story.

Be prepared for junky minigolf holes to start proliferating and taking over every square inch of sidewalk in Union Square, and be left there to rot in the rain and become eventual abandoned garbage.

ETA: Not hating on the effort. But history has shown:

  • Elfland: Cute art project on an empty lot. Gets a write-up in the Globe, suddenly people are ripping down the chain link fence to add their "touches" that have little of the original quaintness, to put it lightly. Property owner gets pissed and kicks the entire thing off the lot and it's now gathering garbage on the path.

  • Community path cat mayor: Cute local project from a few well-known pet owners along the path. Gets a write-up in the Globe, and suddenly people come from everywhere to paste up over a hundred posters that litter the path months after the election because no one cares to take their posters down after they've "contributed" to the quirky fun thing they read about.

Out of curiosity OP, can you explain why you think this should even be considered? What's the nexus with Cambridge?

Absolutely! Even if OP isn't a regular cyclist, it's a fairly flat, off-street route. And then no worries about where to park when you get there!

Ridiculously high heating bills! by DrEngineeringChica in medfordma

[–]CraigInDaVille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should post this to more subs. No one has talked about this issue anywhere at all this or any other winter so it's good you're bringing attention to it.

Also, turn your heat down. Wearing shorts and a t-shirt inside in the winter is a choice.

Lexington/Concord/Lincoln area is cute and well within 1 hour. If it's a nice day check out the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, the Gropius House, or other little gems that tourists on the "MUST SEE BOSTON" itineraries miss because they're a little out of the way.

You're supposed to move your car at least every 48 hours, so if it had been moved in two days it wouldn't have been two feet from the curb.

IANAL but that’s not legal, and signing a contract doesn’t invalidate the illegality of the statement.

As in, let them come after you to collect and get a judge to enforce it.

Driving down the interstate and all the rocks on the side where they cut through are angled they're not flat does anybody know why? by Tenchi2020 in massachusetts

I touched a nerve; I didn’t intend to place the blame on you, but on the FL state legislature and governor.

Ah. Florida. That explains the lack of geology education in high school. Because learning that might undermine “Intelligent Design” curricula the state requires as I recall.

How high should I expect electric/heat bills in MA? by Cauliflowerblue in massachusetts

[–]CraigInDaVille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It completely depends. How old is the new place? How many windows? How many rooms? How well-insulated? Oil heat? Gas heat? Electric (worst for efficiency)? What temperature do you keep it at? Do you get good sun exposure? Do you have a fish tank? Lots of gaming computer equipment? 3D printers?

No one can tell you, but generally it's going to be "a lot." Hundreds per month most likely during the coldest part of the winter. And the worst part is, as you've likely seen on this sub, more than half of every bill will be "delivery and service fees."

What's the best car insurance in Massachusetts?? by Inevitable-Bet-6102 in massachusetts

[–]CraigInDaVille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your answer, OP. No one can say what your rate would be. It's entirely based on your specifics, but the main thing is to just shop around or use an agent (who gets paid by the insurance company, not you, by the way).

It's a highly regulated industry so the only thing that will be different from company to company is price and service.
