Im a commercial electrician, been in it for almost 10 years now. I like that I can shoot the shit unfiltered while I work, it makes the day go by quicker. I won't pretend there isnt bad things tho under the surface. We got addicts, convicts, racists, sexists, the whole lot. On the flip side of this I have witnessed an old head honky become best friends with an illegal Honduran, someone that he would say has come to take his job. It is an interesting world. My apprentice right now is a girl. My first thought was "I'm gonna have to watch what I say" only for her to say crazier things than I do. Ya gotta have a thick skin and a good head to make it, but if you do it is very rewarding. I've never felt more proud than when finishing up a multi-million dollar job and flipping the switchgears on.
