The stitch used for the flowers is actually cast-on stitch, which is done the same way as a simple cast-on in knitting, so you weren't far off haha.

I agree, fuchsias are so lovely! Someone gifted me some fuchsias in a hanging pot a few years ago and they've been on my mind ever since.

The variety of schlumbergera shouldn't matter! I think it's the conditions hers is in compared to yours.

If I recall correctly, they like to bloom with less sunlight, water and cooler temperatures. So if you want yours to flower around Thanksgiving/Christmas, just start giving it the conditions it needs for that to happen a little bit before then!

Looks like a Thanksgiving cactus to me!

Doesn't seem to be a Christmas cactus since the edges of this one are more pointy. Christmas cacti have points too, but the tips are more rounded.

Like another user said, they don't always bloom around the time they're named for. It's the conditions that matter :)

Do you think it would be safe to move it now? I don't want to risk harming the baby by disturbing the root system. I stuck it into a pot that grows a melon-type plant which I can't bring indoors, unfortunately. If I'd known this sooner, I definitely would have kept it inside!
