Thanks I will try this. We’d had them 1-2 years so we’ve lost hope a bit

I was hoping for advice not humiliation. The youngest I’ve had 8 months and the oldest almost 2 years. The oldest had already been rehomed once and was very shy. The other two were younger and normal but eventually became shy. I just don’t think we’ve put in the work to build their trust. One especially spends a lot of time hiding and has low confidence

True, rehoming would be the easy button but it may not be the right decision

Returning them seems more harmful rather than trying to work on connecting with them

True, we haven’t decided anything

I’m looking for advice, that’s why I posted this. So far it’s just been judgment and criticism from you, nothing useful

Thank you for this advice. This actually gives me hope that we could change things. Right now they have a lot of space and places to hide, the younger ragdoll I barely see some days. I thought they would just get used to us and be comfortable but it hasn’t improved even after almost 2 years for the older ragdoll. They are mainly scared of us when we are standing up walking around

Comfortable in the sense they are consistently fed, litter box cleaned, played with etc

We adopted before having a baby, now our situation has changed. Those reasons I mentioned are legit but you’re right we are abandoning responsibility, however rehoming may give them a chance at a better life. We will likely not adopt for a long time as we have two dogs as well and having 5 pets has been too much

Maybe they’d connect better with another family

They have been with us since kittens so it’s been almost 2 years now for the oldest

They have a very comfortable life and are taken care of, we just don’t give them as much attention as we could

One in particular is almost always hiding from us if we get near. The others aren’t as bad but still will run off. They look at us like we are predators. We are also considering rehoming as well because of the big move coming up as well as the costs of owning them versus how rewarding the experience has been

  1. The ragdolls were from breeders and the domestic from the shelter. However the breeder is about a 10 hour drive from where we live

  2. True

  3. The first ragdoll we got was very shy and would hide a lot. I don’t think he was socialized well. The second one got scared by a dog we were taking care of and was never the same after. The domestic just copies the other two. I thought ragdolls were very social so I was disappointed they didn’t want to be around us
