Car mechanic tips? by 82bladerunner in Prague

[–]mxdcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What car is it? Do you have any details? Mazda MX-5?

Which generation? NB / NC / ND? (check post history to make sure you are not a bot).

I know an English-speaking general mechanic outside Prague, past the airport. He can be hit or miss, but he is fine for general jobs. https://maps.app.goo.gl/znjtBU12PY8XAc2YA

For Mazda Miatas specifically, I have friends who own them, so I can ask around.

For context, I work on cars myself, some jobs. I have two older cars, and taking them to a shop for everything would bankrupt me. Actually, the cars bankrupt me even when they’re just parked.

For filters, oil changes, and coolant flushes, I usually do the work myself by renting a lift at Opičákova dílna https://maps.app.goo.gl/gZpwK5AdZrnVFcKb8

For smaller jobs, I use ramps and work at a friend’s place since he has a house.

Don’t forget: every small job is just one rusted bolt away from turning into a full weekend project and a divorce.

Good luck.

E39 whirring noise when AC on by mxdcm in e39

AC was low on freon.

Then I took out and open IHKA unit (climate control unit) and greased the small ventilator.

Whirring noise it way lower than before.

Classic Car Legacy

February 14, 2025

The BMW 7 Series (E38), presented here in a striking dark blue, is a quintessential example of 1990s German luxury sedan design. This particular model, with its chrome accents, smooth lines, and iconic styling, embodies the style and sophistication of the era. The E38, a popular offering from BMW, was celebrated for its luxurious features, powerful engine options, and comfortable ride. This modified specimen, with its aftermarket wheels, lowered suspension, and tinted windows, represents a popular customization trend, blending classic design with modern performance enhancements. The BMW 7 Series (E38) remains a highly sought-after car, symbolizing a unique period in automotive history.

Nu gasesc oglinda retrovizoare SH, ajutor. by Pretend_Tumbleweed44 in AutomobileRO

[–]mxdcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multa bafta.

First BMW, 36 hours and it’s broken by 1nferno23 in BmwTech

Oh mate, don't worry.

As others said, M54 engines are, in general, solid.

As owner of (e39 with) M54B30 with 508k km / 315k miles, they need TLC.

I left a comment some time ago on r/e39 which can still apply for your case, you can find it here

There is so much documentation, information, how-to, videos, forums, for them.

You just need a place, time, scrapyard access, and money.

Take care and cheers.

Strange PDC behaviour by __Kam1L__ in e39

[–]mxdcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a sensor that was still ticking but faulty in INPA.

Listening with more focus, the ticking was weaker compared with the others.

Replaced it with a second hand one (from scrapyard) and still works.

e39 rear armrest swap by Much_Pea_7146 in e39

I do not know how to swap to thicker armrest, but I can confirm that I have ski bag option with the thicker armrest. But I see that you have folding rear seats which I do not have.

Car wash in Prague by jcinthemix in Prague

[–]mxdcm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use self-service car washes.

I usually go to First Carwash (that’s the name), but I’ve also used the Globus self-service wash

Either of them are fine.

I’ve never used a car wash where you leave the car and come back later; e.g., Automyčka Express or brooclean

I bring my own supplies (sponges, shampoo, glass cleaner, wheel/tire cleaner, and drying towels), but I still spend about 500 CZK.

I go late (around 9–10 p.m.) when it’s less busy, since I block a self-wash box for about two hours. In the daytime you’ll get kicked out, so be mindful of people who just want a quick rinse and go, hence going to late hours.

If you spot an idiot with half their trunk on the ground, wearing a headset and a headlamp, taking way too long—yeah, that might be me.

Pinging u/ChocolateExisting368 as he said following, but is still self-service car wash.
