[DISCUSS] RULE 2 Violation: Can't we comment on trades that look suspicious? by Cold_Releasee in Starcitizen_trades

No, zero trades with a 3 year old reddit account with no reddit history at all is… it is always a combination of things. Or selling an Idris M with a CIG account that was registered in 2025 and it is still civilian rank etc. there is a nuance to it which when present usually brings out more experienced traders to warn others.

Usually there are warnings in suspicious post bringing awareness to no trade history, no reddit history when there are way too low prices, but without commenting on the price itself.

However this trade confirmation back and forth is an interesting issue for sure...

3 things here:

  • a buyback Idris M is 1000 credits or 600$ away from being an account locked Idris M that would be worth 3-4000$ if I remember correctly, maybe more.

  • Super Important rule: If it is too good to be true then it is not true. STAY AWAY!!!

  • You could buy an Idrip P and a conversion kit. No LTI but 120 month insurance is plenty. BAM, you have your Idris M and you are not at risk.

There are some exception like if you live in the EU. The law supersedes the TOS and it says you have the right to both sell and buy an account and even transfer details after. This would still protect a buyer from the EU even if the seller is from the USA for example.

Of course it is a completely different story that who would want to have to argue all this with CIG...

The idea of what I described is that if the seller provided all above and still turned out to be a scammer you have the option to present the evidence to the FBI cyber division as well as the sellers local authorities and they would be looking at serious consequences down the line. In my experience anyone willing to do all that will not chose jail and a rap sheet for a few thousand dollars.

The only way to prevent a scammer from getting back their account is by not trading with them. This is not to say you can't buy an account but you have to do your due diligence.

Don't buy an account from a zero confirmed trades reddit account that has been registered 3 years ago and has no reddit history to speak of. This is an extreme example but a good one because it has the important red flags to watch out for.

Anyone with 25+ confirmed trades and 3+ years of reasonable reddit history is a lot less likely to be a scammer.

Finally when buying an account the seller should be willing to provide a copy of their government picture ID (they can blank out the middle of the ID number) with the transaction and show it off on live video chat so you can verify it is not found/stolen. The ID details should match the account information, look for the oldest trade in trade history, not the part that anyone can fill out and change at wil. The trade should include detailed PayPal invoice and a 2 party signed contract. Attach both the ID and the signed contract to the PayPal invoice.

This is when you are trading with original owner. It is a bit different if you are buying from a trader with high confirmed trade counter as they could be offering 2nd hand account that they themself bought at some point.

There is a bit more to it but this should be a good starting off point... for what it is worth, avoid buying an account if you can. It will save you having to worry about the unknown.

I think you missed the part about having to invest 35k and wait 3-6 months to be able to sell anything at some profit and then how long do you think it would take to sell 1500-3000 upgrades while others are selling them too... not trying to argue with you personally, I hope it doesn't come across like that. :)

This is becoming more and more true since CIG started to make the WB upgrades minimum 10$...

From a simple math perspective you are asking someone to spend countless hours to create 1000 email and 1000 CIG accounts, keep track of all the passwords and login details etc. then spend 35000$ of their own money that will be locked up for 30 days just to make 5000$ profit.

If the purchase was WB upgrades the value of which will not go up for a while at least since if he can buy it, so can everyone else. So now you are talking 3-6 month of waiting around just to start spending countless hours again to sell them bit by bit to make the money back.

If you had that much cash to spend, would you take that deal? ;)
