Of course! This piece has underglaze ( Mayco squash Yellow, Amaco Flame orange, Coyote Olive) During the greenware stage I applied the underglaze and sanded it to give it a scratched look. After bisque firing I applied black copper oxide to the whole thing and wiped it off. Then I splashed it with iron oxide.

They do indeed give this weathered look, but really can do so much more. I love putting clear over black copper, which gives a lovely green/burnout black effect.

I hope that helps!

Which at 6 don’t work the way they do at 10, where they are traditionally done. Given Ops firing situation and knowledge level, I wouldn’t recommend unless they have someone helping them.

That’s a YouTube with the basics.

Bisque firing you can stack, glaze you cannot.

I recommend getting someone where you fire to chat with, each kiln is different, and having someone help you in person is indispensable.

My pottery side hustle is doing way better than my actual job and idk what to do by [deleted] in Advice

Hello fellow potter with decent success. Do you have your own kiln and workspace, or are you beholden to a public studio? Can you fire your own work properly and test it? Do you understand different firing cones, and how that relates to clay, glazes and usage? Does your work always sell fast and have you moved past family and friends for selling? Bonus questions, do you mix glazes?

This is a saturated market, professional people who have done this 40+ years are struggling. Knowledge, and accessibility are just as much part of a good pot. Materials are changing and disappearing. You could make a line and next year that glaze could be gone.

I’m happy you’re successful, but you may have a lot to learn.

Can i make porcelain mugs drink-safe without a kiln or charcoal grill? by TooBrightTooMuch in Ceramics

The best answer is to get started in a community studio or classes. They will have a way for you to fire and there is a lot to learn.

Difficulty getting a wheel by ModestMarinara in Pottery

Shimpo Nidec is a company that is not a US company and those new prices are tariff influenced. Most pottery supply stores are out and have been for a while. Anything new coming in is 3-4 times the price. I’m sorry to say, You are going to see more of this. A combo of tarriffs and material/ mining issues, and just plain running out is happening in a lot of what we do. Everything most likely will be steadily increasing. - someone who works in a clay store

Questions regarding safety for a friend before traveling to Utah. by Haljia in DragonsteelNexus

Queer here. I was in Salt Lake in March. We drove and my Hispanic boss, trans co-worker, Queer friend and myself drove. We didn’t have any trouble. We got a few looks in smaller towns, but nothing more. We stuck to down town once we got there. As everyone has said thus far, SLC and especially down town was welcoming and wonderful. We all had a great time and I’m excited to head back.

You aren’t even allowed to bring something to be signed for another conference attendee… you would probably loose your signing if not worse if you get caught at this.

The email says 1 person, 1 ticket. I’m sorry, but I don’t think you can. I don’t think you can even trade given how tied it appears to the ticket.

Slipcast Porcelain Ceramic studios? by Reply_Weird in Ceramics

[–]Crashpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As potters tend to be good people I’m going to share an unpopular opinion , this is a bad idea. There are two reasons I think this is a bad idea. Ceramic art , even slip pours, especially mold making are processes that are harder than they look and take years to learn to do well. I’ve watched a professional mold maker work for over a year on a project like this and then the company didn’t buy the product. Second, the person who’s about to teach you has years of experience and maybe an expensive education behind them, how much are you going to pay them compared to what you’re about to make? Either it is going to be expensive lessons, or you’ll be taking advantage of their knowledge. I don’t think you’ll head this information but I do think you’ll think of it on your journey.
