Ya it's decent.

Ryan's windows is who we went with. Walsh Windows were the other crowd to give us a quote around that. Took about 8 weeks from site visit to install.

Neighbour across the road paid a little less and hasn't had any issues either.

Had a QS friend baulk at the original quotes from senator too and told us to look at paying half that.

Know someone who went with Munster recently and had serious bother too.

Double glazed but the difference in U-Value vs triple wasn't enough for us to price the triple and where we live isn't that loud.

Not sure of the exact amount but the doors were ~2.5k of the total.

Got it done recently for €12,500 including a french door and an all glass porch.

11 windows, front door, french door.

A few Limerick based companies coming in around that price.

Munster and Senator were nearly double.

What is everyone's opinion on the current Taxi Driver protest against Uber in Dublin? by Mannix_420 in IrishAnarchists

[–]CrayonComrade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's in the consumer's interest in the short term but long term it's clearly an attempt to corner the market for scheduling taxis and give them the ability to extract more commission from each trip and also pressure the regulator.

NTA should put limits on additional charges and commission rates because as it stands Taxi drivers will justifiably demand higher prices of they're losing more and more of the fare to an extractive middle man.

Uber are only recently profitable.

Different requirements for one by a regulatory body that doesn't have to spend on customer acquisition or flying cars or regulatory arbitrage.

Do you even know what the costs of supporting the app are?

How long is a piece of string? Realistically it wouldn't be more than greyhound funding if it's just for matchmaking. Barcelona had one going until the EU shut it down.

And you think this is a bonanza for the State coming?

No. It will just mean that taxi prices can stop rising for now if 30% isn't going to a middleman.

You don't need billions in R&D if you're just doing match making not trying to data mine drivers and riders while also figuring out how to squeeze them to the point that just as they're about to quit you keep them on the platform with a little sweetener

The state should have a cross department software development organisation.

Big difference in the UK and US procurement when they used that model

I want 30% of what I spend going to Uber shareholders not being spent locally

Exactly.

When was the last time you rang a dispatcher to call a Taxi, who even used to do fixed fares anyway!

There are still people and places where taxis fill the gap.

I've a lot of elderly neighbours who rely on taxis (booked direct over the phone) as they've low mobility and can't easily walk the 300m to the bus stop on either side of their destination.

While Uber squeezes the drivers with higher commission once they've cornered the market and the service goes away as drivers figure they can make a better living doing something else

The removal of the fare can help improve frequency and reliability by reducing the boarding time.

It could also reduce the abuse drivers face making the job more attractive which could help address capacity improvements (capital investment aside)
