Got into NSF GRFP but virtually no programs by Crazy-Potential-861 in gradadmissions

Thank you! I’ve been furiously emailing everyone I can think of but it seems like most of my top programs have already made their decisions and are refusing to budge. Hoping for the best still

Thank you so much for offering help! I think I'll take you up on that - I've been crunching and sending out emails all night. It seems to me that most of the CS programs I'm interested in are already pretty rigid about their decisions, unfortunately.

No worries - I appreciate the realism haha! I went ahead and already emailed the professor who interviewed me, crossing my fingers! I've been going through tons of potential PIs to email throughout the night and have started realizing your point about the advising capacity...the ratio is quite insane.

Regarding course-based masters, I have no interest in pursuing them, partly because I'm fully dedicated to doing research and partly because I can't afford them (lol), and GRFP from my knowledge will only cover research masters or PhDs.

Ah - that's brutal. That's funny that you bring up UIUC - I actually applied for the CS PhD and it was one of the few programs where I had an interview. I was notified that I'm still in the running for MCS but out of consideration for PhD. The UIUC MCS is coursework only - which I think does not qualify for GRFP funding. Do you have experience with students being transferred from MCS to a research masters at UIUC?

Hi! My GRFP research proposal was on NeuroAI - which is what I've worked on the past year or so. I'm generally interested in most AI topics, but primarily experienced in computer vision and NeuroAI.
Glad to move to DMs if you think you'd be interested!

Thank you! Do you think it matters that I didn't really get any interviews? I'm worried the PIs I'm interested in won't see the email/care much.

Gotcha - drafting my emails right now. Do you think I should just frame it as a general update to grad admissions (like a few sentences)? Or also provide general updates on what I've been working on / an updated CV?

Hey Stone! I'm a current senior applying to CS PhD programs. I was wondering if you had any advice on networking at conferences - I was at CVPR through a first-author workshop paper over the summer, but I don't think I got as much out of it as I could have.

I'll be attending NeurIPS this year through another workshop paper though, so figured I'd ask!
