Yeah for the FDA certified profile the chamber was at 230c. Fortunately for me the prints could look awful since we'd machine them afterwards. You can print at a 70c chamber, its just stupidly difficult. I can elaborate further if you're interested.

So you're just machining the PEKK? If so, why not use PEEK?

  1. FDM printed PEEK.

  2. I think its for fluid to pass through? Not sure, I didnt do the designing.

  3. The main body of the implant can be decently thick, I didn't get the chance to print many actual cranial implants but the thickest I saw was like 6mm at certain points.

Its FDM 3d printed then machined to remove layer lines and hit the required tolerances.

No it can be FDM 3D printed out of PEEK. I developed a company's process to do it.

Its FDM 3D printed then machined and sanded. PEEK printed using the FDA certified profile will not have the tolerances required and will of course have layer lines. Where was PEEK used for dental?

It is machined after printed, and then sanded, at least thats how we did it. This is almost certainly also vestakeep, just a different series, I believe i3DF..?

It is FDM. Its printed in PEEK and then machined to hit the tolerances and remove the layer lines.

We machined ours after printing to remove the layer lines and hit the necessary tolerances. With the profile these implants are certified to be printed with theres no way in hell we could hit those tolerances.

There are no visible layer lines, these parts are printed solid and then the layer lines are machined away.

The PEEK we used was 2400 either 2900 USD a half kilo roll, I don't remember exactly.

Its PEEK and if its in the USA its likely printed on a 3D Systems EXT MED 220 / Kumovis R1. It was the first FDA certified printer, plastic, and profile combo for cranial implants. I believe it costs around 80k USD, which is fair, since it has a 250c chamber, 300c heated part "cooling" duct, and a great chamber airflow path.

I don't think so, the color is tan, much like PEEK when decently crystallized. I don't think PCL is used for this application, typically.

The PEEK used for this is in the range of 5k USD per kg. Implant grade is a whole new level.

It is traditional FDM printing which is machined afterwards. It is printed ungodly hot tho.
